Pontiac G6

so pontiac has a new model out. its a midsize sedan called the g6. nothing really special -- looks a lot like a grand prix from the front and a neon from the back. got a 200 horse V6 in it tho, and a slap shift.
Pontiac G6

kinda sucks that the only car pontiac will put a manual in is the gto. id love to have a grand prix GTX with the 18's on it, but its still only an automatic. what is it with these american car companies not puttin stick shifts in there???

They think the "standard transmission" is dying. Believe it or not, the majority of "Americans" hate driving--hard as it is to believe.

not sure i agree with you on them thinking the standard trans is on the way down, but it is true most americans just want a mindless commute to and from work.

actually, tho, when you think about it, both of those reasons are connected. simplicity of drivin is prob one reason that the american car companies feel that the standard is not the way to go. of course the majority if the imports that are over here are automatics too, but at least they offer the option of a standard.

The advertisments I see in the musclecar mags are always bragging about how they are putting a stick shift into a world of automatics and the risk they're taking. Iono, maybe it's only Caddy thinking that. It would really suck arse, however, if the manual tranny flame was to go out. Tiptronic and "Auto-Stick" may be cool, but sometimes good ol' standard transmissions are a lot more fun.

have to agree with you there. my brother has a 98 prelude (non SH) with a slapshift. its just not the same. still have to shift to neutral to rev up, have to go down each gear in succession (ie instead of bein in 4th doin 40 and downshiftin to 2nd to trounce some dumb kid in a V6 mustang, you have to go through third before 2nd, and by the time the tranny gets to second, you are smacking the redline.) its nice for cornering, and for semi-mindless driving, but they better never take away standard trans.

you know they are even tryin to design cars that drive themselves? unbelieveable...

Haha..."mindless driving/commute" I like how you use dat. Yeah, it'd really suck having to bang through all the gears just to get to the gear you want. It's like GT3 using the PS2 controller but in real life. I still love the standard way of shifting. But I guess we can't complain, all the bigtime open wheel racecars use sequential transmissions.

Cars that drive themselves?! That's a scary thought...or maybe I've been watching too much iRobot and Terminator. It'd be okay if it's 110 degrees outside and I parked 3 blocks from the mall; then I'll need the car to come to me but other than that, when I'm driving those freakin' power-hungry robots better not try to take control of my car.

LOL That's freaky. Funny thing is engineers and scientists are working harder and harder everyday to do those exact things: "make the quality of life higher." All of a sudden your favorite games and movies seem closer and closer to reality and you worst nightmares are more than just an imagination. Woohoo, yeah! :headbang:
