I was thinking of getting one but my parents said no snakes.
Here's the best advice I can give you as I have owned many snakes. They're escape artists!
Start easy like a Cornsnake too and move onto maybe small boas or maybe even red-tails.

None require UV and if a store tries to sell you $30 bulbs, ignore them. I know my s*** bro. :)
They only need heat bulbs or ceramic emmiters.

Feed them out of their tank and in a plastic tub, or they will get food aggressive. You deff don't wan't that with a larger snake. Feed them dead mice and always wash your hands when you handle mice. They will smell them on your hands. People get bit because they don't know how to handle snakes. I've been bit 2x and I've dealt with hundreds of snakes.

I've been hurt by cats more often.

Yeah I knew they didn't need uv, but I didn't know they could smell the mice on your hands. I refuse to buy any animals from large chain stores after having to nurse my first dragon back to good health.

The red heat bulb is better than a basking heat bulb. Your animals can't see red, so it doesn't bother them at night. You can leave the red heat bulb on 24hrs a day unless it's a very hot day. The basking bulb would normally be used during the day as a day heat lamp, but the red one does the same thing.

Heat Emmiters are the most expensive, but they last YEARS! Better than bulbs. Just pay attention and check everyday if it works because they don't give off light to be able to physically see that it works daily. I like them because they don't bug your pets at night.

Turn off the UV at night and replace them every 6-12 months depending on usage because they lose UV output over time and doesn't provide Vitamin D anymore. If you have one of those compact bulbs, they provide more UV at close range and it can give a sunburn.

5.0 UV for tropical species
10.0 UV for desert species
