You should talk to the person who plans to paint it.
If I were you I would clean it very very well if anything.

are you looking for a permanent show car finish or just a good looking 5 year thing?

If u want to prep your car and it has no clear coat peeling scuff it up goo d with a gray ( Fine) or red scotch bright pad (coarse), if you have peeling clear coat or no clear at all feather edge those spots and with some 320 or 400 grit sand paper and prime those spots and then lightly scuff the primer with some scotch bright. If u have metal showing get some metal etch primer to help keep out rust. The body shop should do a pre clean with some wax and grease remover, u could wash it with some degreaser before u do the prep work and again afterwards just make sure u keep any type of silicone products away from the vehicle this will cause fish eye.

if u want a real smooth finish wetsand it with some wet dry sandpaper no less then a 1500 grit just make sure u don't break through to your base coat if u have to prime spots, wetsand those areas as well.

UUUHHHH-OOOOHHHHHHH...!!!
Since this was from a couple weeks ago, I assume he's already gotten it painted by now.

If not, there is a lot of work when it comes to prepping a car for paint. It's not a one week type of deal if you're looking to be detailed. You have to consider sanding (rough grit and working your way finer...lots and lots of sanding...I mean lots), doing any body work that needs to be done, guide coats, smoothing out imperfections so the paint is flawless under any light, gathering parts (if you're looking to add something to your car so it's painted all in one shot), primering (there are a few different types that you'll need to lay down), wetsanding, and did I mention lots of sanding? Lots and lots of sanding.

x2

It took me 3 days just to sand and primer a hood and one fender on my old s10. From sun up to sun down for 3 days straight. And there was lots of standing!
