Since this was from a couple weeks ago, I assume he's already gotten it painted by now.
If not, there is a lot of work when it comes to prepping a car for paint. It's not a one week type of deal if you're looking to be detailed. You have to consider sanding (rough grit and working your way finer...lots and lots of sanding...I mean lots), doing any body work that needs to be done, guide coats, smoothing out imperfections so the paint is flawless under any light, gathering parts (if you're looking to add something to your car so it's painted all in one shot), primering (there are a few different types that you'll need to lay down), wetsanding, and did I mention lots of sanding? Lots and lots of sanding.
