hey guys my check oil light came on, but it fluctuates when i accelerate in nuteral but once its in first or any other gear it stays on. i just replaced the oil switch sensor pressure thingy because it was leaking oil through it. what could the problem be? im thinking something having to do with oil pressure. i need a new oil pan gasket could that be why?. any advice?

yes, of course i have enough oil. i have checked it many times, maybe i have too much? would the sensor come on because of too much oil?

Either the sensor is malfunctioning or you have a larger problem. If you're losing oil pressure it's most likely that your mains have gone bad and you need to rebuild the bottom end. That light comes on at 5psi, well below the safe level of pressure required to maintain the barrier between metal to metal contact.
You might try running a slightly thicker oil.

ok so how thick should it be, like a straight 30, or 40??? it has 10-30 right now.

it has 209,000, its a 91 so its not insane. it runs good tho. the check oil light came on when i switched the sensor, i think the other one was bad.

Since you are familiar with that oil dummy switch, go buy yourself a mechanical oil pressure gauge. You will be able to get some readings from that which will let you know how the oil pressure really is.

It should be no less than 10 PSI at idle (maybe its 12-15, not quite sure). There is also a target PSI for it at 3000RPM, but thats something a manual will provide.
