New to the Gen 2

well guys/girls my name is Justin Powell. I've been a dirt road racer since i was a kid but for the last few years ive been trying to learn how to build and operate on tarmac. lol.

so i recently traded my non-operable 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE for a 1991 Acura Integra GS four door.

it has a pretty bad oil leak and a tranmission problem. it would seem that it lacks a third gear(its automatic). from qwhat i can tell first and second operate fine and so does S4 but when i leave it in drive and im cruising at around 20-25MPH it seem like it goes into nuetral and takes forever to find gear. and if you try to run it in S3 its like its in nuetral. so im gonna guess its an internal problem. also in reverse it makes a clicking noice on the right side of the engine bay.

it also leaks tranny fluid. so i ordered a rebuild kit and im going to have that done by january. umm the distributer kind of makes a squeking sound.... its wierd.

the guy that had it before me also has the fan rigged up. but i can easily fix that.

i have a large list of parts for this car and i plan on having it done by 2011 but that depends on college and how much work i can do.

for the record im certified by my college for autmotive service technology(emission systems), suspension and steering, and brakes.

next semester ill be certified for automatic and manual transmissions and drive axles. then heating and cooling, then electrical and engine repair. im also working on A.S.E. certification.

I hope to hear from someone soon and i hope to do acura some justice lol.

P.S. ill be posting videos on youtube of my teg and ill be documenting this project very well.

u planning to convert to manual?
ehh. its a pain in the ass plus the automatic adds 50 pounds so i get to do more math. so ill probably stick with the automatic unless its easier on these cars. i know its literally hell to do so on a Nissan

oh and the reason roads arent flat, aside from the rain, is so alignment shops can make money off of caster/camber adjustments dues to the varied road crown depending on location lol. industry bastards lol jk.

id say convert to manual, it may be a bit of work but IMO manuals are less hassle and cheaper than an automatic

Auto to manual conversion is pretty easy on Honda. I'd say if you have the time and the will, go for it.

nothing from nowhere
Welcome. sounds like you need a tranny:( thats the perfect one to learn on. actually hondas are the worst. ASE are certainly good to have and especially when your in the job market. the public likes them too:) glad to have you on our site!

I have the will but it will be a while before i can consider that. for now its all about rebuilding this car (226,102 miles neads to be shaved down a bit lol). umm what all would it take. i mean i know the clutch pedal, the shift assembly, and the tranny. what about the pcm? would i have to change that out. and im gonna guess ill have to trash the TCM. lol. im pretty un educated about transmission so bare with me if im wrong on that information.

true that aside from needing special pullers for manuals they are so much better. they fail like 40% less than automatic transmissions or something like that. plus the fun of heel and toe, double clutch, and clutch dumping. manual are all around better if you can handle the hassle in big cities lol.

You mean you want to rebuild the engine or just replace parts?
Well first would be timing belt, water pump, bushing, filters, all your fluids and things like that. Basically if you don't know when it was replaced you should probably replace it.

yeah i know about all that. lol. i want to get this engine running pretty damn good. in feb. ill be buying another motor. im gonna rebuild it to run almost like new. pull the motor thats in it right now and begin building it for top end.

Are you trying to do an NA high compression build or just make it like it was the day it left the dealership?

well first im going to build A high compression N/A motor. and im looking for more top end rather than bottom end. then down the road i plane or doing another build with this car for a T3/T4 turbo build and ill probably end up running anywhere from 8-12PSI so it'll be low compression pistons and all that.
