Need new motor

Ok my first integra was a 94 that I bought in 95. Back then, the word was non vtec was better as it was more modifiable. Is this still the thinking of today? Reason I'm asking is, I just recently picked up a 2000 4 dr integra, that I was told has a 50,000 mile Japanese motor in it. Well the motor seems to be burning oil pretty good, so I want to swap the motor out before it goes to hell. What is the best route to take. Don't want to spend more than a grand. Want the best power option with the least cost involved. And room for upgrades later. It's just a daily driver that I would like to have some good power but not killing my mpg. Lol sorry, but I just sold a guzzling lifted ford excursion, so I'm in heaven right now with $40 fill up and 400 miles to a tank. Lol. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Fuel efficient - LS (b18b1)
Power/price ratio - GSR (b18c1)

Things are way different, LS engines are the bottom of the heap really

What motor is it with 50k burning so much oil? These things can last for 300k+ without a rebuild, I highly doubt it's gonna take a crap on you.

I will get a good look at the motor and take pics tomorrow. The motor is still running strong, and I'm not really concerned about it crapping out. I just dont need the added burden of making sure I'm not burning the motor up running it without oil.

if u want the cheapest option go with a b18b1... non vtec, if u want the extra pop get a b18c1 or b18c.... today vtec is what kids look for with hondas, but even still hondas arent as popular among kids my age as the were 5 or so years ago... now everyone either has a mommy and daddy car or a vdub

Is there going to be a lot more involved in doing the B18C1? I'm used to the power of the newer full size sedans, so I need all the punch I can get. Lol

What kind of mpg differences are we looking at? I think coming from 10 mpg I will be happy either way. Lol
