Raceline USA
Once again, I had another track day this past Saturday at Buttonwillow Raceway in Buttonwillow, CA. This time, I ran with NASA (National Auto Sport Association). I usually run with Speed Ventures, but Opak Racing/Spoon Sports was going to be there for the 3-Hour Endurance race. Overall, I had blast driving the new configuration and hanging out with my friends. Also hanging out with Opak Racing/Spoon Sports. I gained a lot of experience and feel more comfortable driving at this track going at a high level. I want to say I was going around 8/10ths. Unfortunately... The run group that I was in (HPDE 2) didn't allow us to have transponders. So I have no clue what my lap times were. I'll be moving up to HPDE 3 the next time around. Then I'll be able to get a transponder. Alright, enough talking. Here's what went down:
1st Session:
- Had an instructor who used to race an EF hatch ride along with me. Showed me the racing line and pointer out my mistakes. I wasn't looking far enough at my exit.
- Warm up lap: Took it easy and scanned the track for clipping points, debris, etc.
- Hot laps: I was keeping a steady pace trying to master the lines that my instructor showed me.
- My instructor encouraged me to pass people everytime we hit the straights. Lol! I ended up dive-bombing a Mustang. :thumbs up
- Cool down lap: Took it easy and let my brakes cool down. No signs of warping at this point.
2nd Session:
- Drove without my instructor since he never came back. I didn't care. I wanted to try driving alone anyway.
- Drove for 2-3 laps going about 6-7/10ths trying to practice the lines and technqies that my instructor taught me.
- Pushed it a litte more and started to pick up the pace. Passed a few cars. Mustangs, S14, S2000, etc.
- This run felt really good. Much better than my 1st.
3rd Session:
- Once again, chilled on the out lap and gradually picked up my pace after every lap
- For about a lap and a half, I was chasing an NA1 NSX. I was keeping up in the corners, but it would pull away a bit on the straights. He finally let me pass after the Cotton Corners. It was fun battle.
- Little signs of warping of the brakes during hard braking at the 1st corner after the front straight.
4th Session:
- Last session of the day. I really wanted to give it my all.
- First battle was with an S14. Was on his tail for an entire lap, until he gave me a point-by at the front straight
- Last half of the session was boring due to traffic. A chick in a 3-Series Coupe, Mustang, and a dude in a CB7 were holding everyone up
- Wasn't pissed because I was already tired.
- Brakes were definitely warped. Time for an upgade. :thumbs up
Pictures:
Here's my best friend Theo, taking a picture while parked outside my house. He had to wake my sleeping ass up. I totally failed. He drives a CL9. He tracked it too. Bone stock baby!
Going uphill...
Buttonwillow is about 130 miles away from home. It's a bitch to drive so early in the morning.
Finally arrived...
