My speakers suck. Questions on replacing them.

Just got a '95 integra ls, and I'm lovin it. However, the sound system is total crap, and I want to replace the stock speakers.

There's two speakers in the front and two speakers in the back. Do people normally replace both the front and back speakers (so 4 speakers in total)? If so, if I bought 2 pairs of these speakers would they fit in both the front and back?

well, when i replaced them i replaced all 4 at once.
they're all the same size... 6.5 inch to be exact (in coupes that is)
if you want to go all out you can get component speakers in the front and what not..

If you have tweeters in your front doors you can get a component set for the front. Do you have a small grille up on your door like this?


Is your car a 2 door or 4 door?

It also wouldn't take much to mount tweeters in your door panels if you don't already have them. Well worth it imo.

id say get a decent kenwood headunit and then some kicker door speakers and id suggest getting either kenwood or kicker, i have kicker and they sound great..and no just do the front two first and then you can do the back, no rush

mine is 2door, and it doesn't have that.

If I replace the front only, should I disable the back speakers? The reason I want to replace them is because the audio gets REALLY mumbled up even if I turn the volume up just a little. Would front speakers only be loud/clear enough?

OK. Well, you can cut holes for tweeters in your panels if you want a component set bad enough and if you have the guts, lol. It's intimidating. Or just go with a coaxial speaker for the regular spot. Much less work, less intimidating, and no crossovers to also mount.
When you hear the difference between your new aftermarket front's and the stock rears you'll be wanting to change the rears too.

We don't know what size speakers you have in the back if you don't answer that.

I wouldn't suggest components (separate mids and tweets with crossover's) if you're not amplifying them, and if you are amping them, I wouldn't do this without an aftermarket head unit. However just a simple HU/Amp/component set combination with proper tuning and equipment and you will be blown away with the difference in sound.

Are your speakers blown? if not, Id suggest upgrading your cd player FIRST. Source signal is the most important first step you can take when creating a system. I can't tell you how many times I've had customers tell me " I can't tell a difference" after they just paid me to replace their speakers combined with a stock cd player.

If your speakers are blown, Id just get some coaxials to replace them with, with your level of experience.

Is there a good aftermarket speaker for the sedans that is not coaxial? I have one blown door speaker and with tweeters at a good height I see coaxial as being a downgrade. But I don't want to spend too much right now.
I do know quality but doing cheap budget for now, just got the car. I have MB Quart Q-line hooked up to a Diamond Audio amp and Eclipse deck in the RX-7.
I already have some old Pioneer 6x9" 4-ways sitting around to try in the rear and the deck is a Clarion.

There are some nice sets of components on Ebay for short money, around the $50-$80 range from companies like Diamond, MB Quart and Infinity. Brand new sets too, but probably not 2010 models, that's why their so cheap.

Good advice, def amp them :) i bought my car with some pionner deck and after market speakers and shit sounds terrible with no amp. here some really good component that are worth the price, if your gonna spend the money might as well spend it on something worth it. IMHO pyle is a pile POS lol

No, he's right. Changing the speakers will make the biggest difference to sound quality.

For best sound quality, just remove the rear speakers. The more speakers you have, the more you divide the power between each speaker, and the more sound cancellation you get.

If you're going to get components then I suggest you let a professional install them.

Don't blow your money on some high dollar speakers. You'll never know the difference between crazy high end speakers and speakers that are just "good. Infinity, Alpine, and Kicker are all great speakers that are reasonably priced. If you want to drop some money, spend it on your home audio. The home environment actually allows you to experience the sound quality you're paying for.

If you want speakers that sound good without an amp, look for a high sensitivity rating. Infinity makes 2 ohm speakers with high sensitivity that sound good w/out an amp. Alpine speakers IMO really only wake up with an amp.
