so today while at work i called my cousin and he's selling me a shit load of parts for super cheap. i started thinking about how fun they're gonna be and all then i started thinking about an article i read in this months superstreet where i guy had had many b series swaps until he finally went k. he said he'd never look back. so i started thinking, well, 180k is alotta mile to start modding with. i know i'm wanting something reliable, somewhat powerful, and something that'll turn heads. i know right out the box a k series has the power i'm looking for and being a newer motor probably more reliable. that's my most important quality i want in the car. i still want the car to be my dd but, i can still have fun with it and show it off alittle while maintaining a/c and other eminities. cruise control would be nice. don't necessarily need ps. gotta have ac. here in the south it's horrible without ac. gotta have that. other than that i guess really that's all i wanna keep. a k swap with ac.

a few months back i saw an add on craigslist where a tow company was selling a wrecked 06 rsx. can't remember if it was type s or not. it was nice, engine was fine, interior great but, it had gotten nailed on the side and it was auto. the guy wanted 2k for it. at the time all i was thinking about was buying it to part out and make a few dolllars off of but i decided not to. today after work i went by the area where they store their cars and it wasn't there. i called and the guy that answered was new and he said he'd never seen it. i knew it had been months since i went to see the car and it was a long shot but, he said he'd ask the owner where it was and if it was stiill available.

so now i'm probably gonna start reading and researching all that's involved in a k swap....with ac lol. i think it'd be fun and i don't know anyone in my area with a k series right now. i always liked seeing them at meets in new orleans when i lived there. the only cars that had them were hb's. the article in superstreet has kinda inspired me. i dont wanna go dump alotta money in a high milaged b series when a k series could probably be had for about the same price and put down the same power, if not more, than a modded b series. so anyway, comment and help and ideas on what to do is always appreciated everyone. let me know what you think.

decided against the swap....for now anyway....
i need to post a few pics. not alotta progress tho. i did prime the grill. my paint gun is shitty tho. gonna try a gravity fed gun because it seems like when i tilt the gun a certain way the paint escapes the feeding tube when paint is low and it comes out in spats.

anyway, i'm in the process of putting a ctr steering wheel in the db8. the wheel spindles are different so i cut out the db spindle and just unscrewed the ctr spindle and i'm mounting the db8 spindle to the ctr wheel. i think it's gonna be pretty sweet. also, my jdm oil cap came in and i've got a jdm shift boot. also have a kevlar spark plug cover on the way. right now i really just wanna get it on the road so bad. local car meet is coming up and wanna have it done sooooo bad. i need help tho. i get distracted too easily. i sanded the bumper and start bondoing it down to fill any scratches or holes then this steering wheel came along and i got my mind set on putting it in. it'll probably be done tomorrow tho. will post a few pics.

also, i'm trying to get my hands on a mugen strut bar. gotta guy in the uk i'm getting it from but i only talk to him every few days. gotta guy locally with a mugen header i'ma get and from there i'll order the bronze/gold (whatever you wanna call it) oil cap, some reservoir covers, and radiator cap. i also want the mugen twin loop exhaust. will be happy with just the axleback. anyway, just wanting to let you all know there is some progress. just slow and disorderly.

what's up everyone? last few nites have been bad weather and i havent been able to do anything to the car. i keep getting parts in tho which i love. my jdm oil cap & kevlar spark plug cover came in. put the cap on real quick before work the other day just to get a quick pic. i've also got a mugen strut bar on the way as well. i picked up a skunk2 intake manifold and throttle body combo from my cousin. dunno when i'll put it on tho. i found a local guy selling itb's and i may try and get those. doubt it'll happen so i'll be happy with the skunk2 mani for now. also think i may have found some wheels and suspension. not sure yet. the wheels are spoon knock offs i think but they've got great tires. i forget what kinda coilovers. all looks good tho.

i havent got the ctr steering wheel on yet. not much left to do but, mount the hub to the wheel. just need to go get the hardware to do so. while pulling off the other wheel i broke the srs think that goes around the spindle and broke the cruise control connections as well. now i've gotta find a replacement for that because i wanna keep cruise control.

i saw a guy that had a s2k push start button in place of his dimmer switch and thought that was pretty cool. i've always wanted to have a push start button but i want it to be true push start. not to where i have to put the key in the ignition and turn it then hit the start button. i think that makes the start button pointless. i want it set up so when i get in the car i push the button and it starts. no key required. anyone done this before? of course i'd have an alarm and all or maybe have a hidden kill switch that has to be activated before you hit the button. i dunno. something. anyway, i'd wanna keep my dimmer switch tho and not have to drill another hole in the dash somewhere. i started looking around my steering wheel and couldn't really come up with another place.my eyes ventured over toward the center controls and i saw where the lighter plugs in and thought that'd be great because i don't smoke anyway. i dunno if it'll fit yet or not. that may come later on. just an idea.

well i've got the mugen strut bar on its way. the rest of the mugen list includes header, oil and radiator caps, reservoir covers, and the twinloop muffler. there's no order to the list. will just get the parts whenever i can or whenever i see a site with a deal. that's my plan for the engine bay as of now. i'll think more about the interior later when i'm driving it everyday but, my plans include swapping my tan interior for black interior and get the jdm black w/ red stitching recaro fronts and the jdm black w/ red stitching rear seat. also a jdm shift boot i got not too long ago. gonna dye the carpet black and try to find a decent set of usdm type r floor mats. as for ice, i'll probably just stick with a decent cd player. maybe a tv since the double din is there. i dunno. anyway, i'll leave you all with this pic i took with my phone before work the other day.

update 7/20/10

ok guys i know it's been awhile since i've posted some updates. i've been ordering parts left and right. got many of them in and yesterdsay started doing alittle work.

first thing i started working on was porting the aebs manifold i got so it'll flow even better. i also had to open up the tb opening so it'll be a straight through flow. the mani came with a 65mm tb opening. my tb is 68mm so i went opened that up and made sure everything was smoothed down. also smoothed the runners as far in as i could get it. afterwards i trimmed the tb gasket and added alittle rtv sealant and mounted the tb.

while i have the manifold off i decided to fill my motor mounts with urethane. as of now i just filled the rear and pass side mm. i thought i was having problems gettin the bracket off the rear. the bolt wouldn't budge. i decided to get a breaker bar for leverage and it broke free. turns out it's one of the ones that's welded on the bracket. the previous owner didn't replace the bolt that went through apparently. went to the parts store today and picked up one.

i used a drill with wire brush to remove all of the old gasket material. my brother helped with a flat head and we got it cleaned up pretty well. i stuffed the ports with some towel so no debris will get passed the valves. i'm thinking of using a flapper wheel and smoothing out the openings of the head. may try before i install the manifold.

my litttle brother wanted to learn to change the oil in the car so i let him. put in 4 fresh quarts of mobil1 and a new magnetic drain bolt and honda oil filter. i'm going with mugen parts in the bay. i've got the jdm oil cap for b series but i want the bronze oil cap from mugen. i've got a kevlar spark plug cover and i think it'd complement it well. also have the mugen strut bar and on the mounting brackets they're a light bronze/yellow/goldish color and the pieces would complement each other.

i've got the mugen intake with the stock intake pipe right now. i want to get larger intake piping but i don't like too many aftermarket intake pipes. i'm thinking of just going to a salvage yard and trying to find one from a newer honda. i like the chamber style intakes kinda along with the whale cock intakes. i wondering if i could use one of those with the mugen airbox hmmmmm...anyone seen anything like that?

the badge off my mugen strut bar is getting pretty crappy. where can i get authentic mugen decals to replace this one? i see some people with the raised lettering mugen badge then others with just the sticker. dunno which one i like best.

sometime this week i plan on getting my aerocatch hood pins installed. i've got the jdm conversion swap on my front and the oem cable doesnt reach so i'm probably just gonna use the hood pins to keep it attached. i got the locking version so hopefully no one will be able to get in.

as fas as hoses go, i've shortened a few to try and clean up a the bay alittle. can someone post some pics of what they've done to clean it up alittle. just heater or vaccuum hoses. i'm not talking about a full tuck..

here's some pics of how everyting sits right now and a pics of the filled mm's. enjoy!!

in this pic you can see where i shortened one of the heather hoses. it connected to that bracket that held the manifold. i'm gonna get one straight tube eventually. just connected it in the middle because thats all i had at the time.

i call these my gorilla mounts. they're ugly ass hell but just as strong.

i'll be sure to post more soon. i've got 3 days off this week but i'm pretty busy. we'll see what all gets accomplished

thanks for looking everyone. comments always welcome

ok alittle update. i ordered my mugen header last nite and i started taking all the sensors off the gsr mani to put on the aebs mani. alot of the screw broke off while trying to loosen them so tomorrow i'm gonna take some to the parts store and get new screws and try and get some with a hex head so i can use a socket to remove them with ease if i have to in the future. i also cleaned my fitv and iacv. i'm probably gonna put them in the cabinet and sandblast them clean and then coat them with some clear coat so they'll look good and be protected alittle. i know where the iacv goes on the new mani but not sure where the fitv will go. i remember reading something about blocking it but, i think that was on a da. could i do this to my db8 and not throw the cel?

also, the black box looking thing under the gsr mani, what do i do with that now. i don't think the new mani has a spot for this. i could be wrong but, i started thinking about that while taking the mani apart. i dont even know what it is really. anyone have a link to the plumbing. it's been awhile since i removed the all the hoses and all from the gsr mani. i've got the aebs mani and opened up the tb opening to about 69mm so it'll flow clearly with my 68mm tb. i also smoothed the runners while i was at it. i put the tb and gastket on 2 days ago and used alittle rtv sealant to ensure to leaks. i also swapped sensors that go on the tb. used some rtv with that as well. what's a good way to remove the broken screws? if they were bigger i wouldn't have any trouble but, with them being so small i think it'll be a PITA. any suggestions?

tomorrow i plan on getting the rest of the sensors off and putting them on the new mani. may even get the car running if i can figure out where all the hoses go. anyone have a diagram i could use? just seems like i wont need alot of the hoses that were used with the gsr mani. can anyone give me some input on this?

i've also been thinking of running a catch can between the pcv and intake so if wont suck it as much oil . also wanna look around for a larger diameter oem intake hose. i've got the mugen intake but, want the tube to look stock.. maybe tomrrow i can squeeze in a salvage yard run. dunno. we'll see. i'm hoping i can get the manifold installed and maybe even the intake. i'll be sure to post pics. if i get the mani on and running correctly i can put the mugen strut bar on as well. i think it'll look good.

anyway, if anyone has a diagram how the hoses route that'd be great. also, if i can block the fitv let me know. thanks everyone and i'll definitely keep you posted.

ok so today i was finally able to work on the car. dedicate the whole day and all. i started off the day by removing some hardware and sandblasted it clean and clear coated it to give the bay alittle "new off the showroom floor" feeling. i also blasted and painted some piping and brackets as well..got most of the sensors on the manifold and the fuel system in. also shortened and cleaned up some hose. here's a few pics of throughout the day.

this is how filthy my radiator hose is. say bye bye

UPS showed up with a package for me around mid day. wonder what it could be? possibly "over nite parts from japan?"

i've got this stuff left over for now. what is it? do i need it?

now just gotta figure out which hose to run to these

it's cleaning up now. slowly but surely. gonna smooth those ports up a bit before i install the mani.

now are you ready to see what came in?

gonna clean it up alittle before the install. will do that after the manifold is installed. i wanna get the mugen twin loop muffler for the db8. that'll come sometime eventually. when i put the header on i'm gonna try and order the muffler. which size piping should i go with for this setup? i want a nice tone. nothing too loud or high pitched.
