loud ticking noise after head gasket replacement!

well it should be fine than, i'd check the tension on the timing belt to make sure its tight when your tightening the tensioner bolt cause if its not then your tensioner might be bad

It gets tighter when the slack is on the tensioner side like its supposed to be. Is it safe to turn the cams by the bolt that holds the cam gears on? I'm going to try it again. Just got done raining here in Ga.

yeah its safe I usually turn them with a socket til they line up with the hole in the cam caps

It's just not lining up Dammit. I'm stooped. The motor is a lot harder to turn. Is this because the spark plugs are in?. Before it was easier when the spark plugs were out

yeah it would be alot easier cause the spark plugs being in forces it to push the compression out of the head instead of going out through the cylinders from the spark plug holes. so if you want to make it easier just take the plugs out and then itll turn easy and wont hurt anything

No Vtec. It's standard b18a1. I took the valve cover off and the cams were still in line but the mark on the crank pulley was off. It was on the last line of the three marks for ignition timing. Here's the weird thing: when I line the crank pulley up and the cams as well, it seems the belt is off like half a tooth. It's either I shift the cams to the left or the right to get the belt on. But then my timing is off right? As I mentioned, the head was resurfaced. Could it be that the head is shorter so the timing belt is too big?
Those marks are for setting your ignition timing, not your cam timing! I#1 needs to be at TDC, THEN line up the marks on the cam gears.

Yea I lined it up right. Took off very slowly out the drive way and got about two blocks from the house and the car died. It was smoking really bad. Wtf. I hate this car right now lol

ONLY couches pull out!!!!
sounds like you have them too tight now.

id do a leak down test to make sure you didnt bend a valve if your noise persist.
