12 lbs is alright 8 is fine
so I searched this flywheel topic and I wanted to ask how easy is it to do the change? Because I'm interested in doing this upgrade to my car and ill be honest I'm a noob at cars still. But i know that just getting in there is the only way I'm going to learn so i just want to know as a heads up. And i think I'm going to look for a 12 pound one.

Would it be bad if I still have the stock clutch?

i dont have any problems. i got the exedy stock replacement clutch and its doing pretty good. but i didnt know this when i bought it but uphill torque is lacking sometimes with the lightweight clutch. downhill you will fly. haha.

Love the answers, go with as light as you can. Anytime you take weight off your rotating mass you'll do yourself a favor.

Lose torque...wtf...not possible.
Warping... Not happening.

Exedy makes a sweet lightweight flywheel that is machined out of a solid piece of steel. A lot of brands just press a ring gear on, I would avoid those.

Maybe not lose torque but doesn't the loss of rotational mass work against you on a engine with Just bolt ons? I remember someone telling me that after I got mine.

No, anytime you remove rotational mass off your drivetrain it will result in less drivetrain loss. Therefore you will transfer more hp/tq to the wheels.

OEM manufacturers use heavier flywheels to increase drivability. When you let off the gas with a lightened rotating assembly you will experience greater deceleration from compression slowing you down; because the weight isn't there to keep it moving. However when on the gas it will always be faster, and theoretically you would see an increase in mpg.

That really explains a lot man. Thanks. Proper information FTW.

I have a 93 ls hatch and im putting in an excedy stage 1 organic clutch kit. I also would like a lightweight flywheel, i found a kit that comes with excedy stage 1 clutch and an xtd 9lb flywheel. Is 9 lbs too light? Is xtd any good? I need a good affordable one. Im running basically stock setup just cai and exhaust

XTD if i recall is a not so great company. I would get an exedy or act. Hell even an ITR one is fine. If you want to be really safe, you can get an SFI rated flywheel
