Klutch's B6 A4 Build Thread

Goodness, I owe many updates to this thread... I will pick things up where I left off. There's been a lot of tiny things done but I will focus on the main ones.

I installed new front wheel bearings to replace my horrible OEM ones. The factory ones were bad enough that they fell to pieces when we pressed them out... Needless to say the difference in the drive has been night and day. While my buddy Kameron was working on that, I installed a JHMotorsports solid short shifter. The amount of slop in the factory system was ridiculous. Now, shifting is crisp and to the point, and the throws are about half as long as they were before, while still retaining factory knob height. Well worth the investment.

Spring break was a very busy time for me. First things first, I redid my entire stereo. Installed a Kenwood DNX7160 head unit, bluetooth microphone, Focal Integration ISS 165 components, a pair of ballsy Kenwood amps to power the components and my JL Audio 10" W3. Amps still need a cleaning up but they sure work well! I also finally got around to updating my interior trim the way I wanted it originally but didn't have money for. OEM "fishscale" trim set was picked up and installed 10 minutes later xD I also repaired a leak I was getting on my headliner due to a poor seal on the rear window.

A bit of an update on the vibration issues some of you were familiar with me having: I got the issue sorted out. I thought for sure it was going to be the dual mass flywheel going in to this and my assumption, thanks to all the help I received, wasn't too far off base. When the transmission was dropped this past week, we found several things wrong. First, several bolts had backed out on the flywheel and two were completely missing. (The holes they belonged in were completely stripped as well) I would attribute this to previous mechanic being uneducated and re-using the previously used stretch bolts. Secondly, the clutch assembly itself was missing two bolts. And last but not least, the throwout bearing was completely loose. Put everything in order, replaced the fork and throwout bearing and she drives smooth as silk now. Moral of the story, just because previous owners maintenance records show the clutch and flywheel are less than a year old does NOT mean the mechanic had the slightest idea what they were doing, or that you wont have issues.

I was planning on making it out to ISS last week, but due to weather conditions, both I-70 and I-80 were closed and so I was stuck in Denver. Conveniently, there was a dyno day going on at a local shop, so I decided to swing by and after waiting in "line" for 2.5 hours I put the needy girl on the dyno. Numbers weren't terribly surprising. Factory, my car makes 220 hp and 220 tq to the crank. On a Mustang dyno, my car made 169 hp @ 5793rpm and 159.3 tq @ 4603rpm to the wheels with an elevation density of 6,350 ft. Corrected for altitude I made 198 hp and 187 tq to the wheels. Not bad considering I suffer about a 20% drivetrain loss. Dyno sheet below. I have to say I was impressed at how linear the power curve was and how flat the torque curve was. Video of the world's longest pull included.

Aside form that, I think that's about it update wise for now. I just purchased a lot of tools, I am officially poor again. Updates will come with the money, I have some good things on the way as soon as that cash flows. Here's pics :)

Just a few minor updates, changed up the wheels for something with a bit more lip and concave, and also picked up a confetti Recaro SRD. Had to get a bracket custom made to get it to fit, but it's amazingly comfortable and holds me well when doing racecar things. That's about all update wise for now. Here's pictures, a few before and after.

My first day of autocross, finally got a good video.

Thanks fellas! Yeah mods are pretty pricey, of course I also have a rare engine combo as well so that doesn't help either.... THey don't even make an intake for this thing...

well that looks like the same exact engine I had in my a6, so you might be able to get away with parts for that?

Yeah it's similar to the 2.8, but the options are still limited even then. I think I will either just swap it or save my pennies for an RS4
