Is the Integra the right track car for me?

Hi everybody, new to the forum, but have been reading for a while. I have always liked the Acura Integras, just for the way they run forever, nice easy handling, relative cheap price and fun factor, I guess it's a Honda. I have ended up owning a lot of different cars, street and track (dirt/road) and actually raced an Integra (1990) on dirt track for about 1 year. Now my wife and I are buisy racing dirt track, but always loved to go to road courses. We have Laguna Seca, Tunder Hill, Infenion and other tracks within 200 miles. I would love to do some open track days myself in something like an 94 and up GSR. It would be trailered only vehicle to the track, with lexan and cage race rubber. No restriction for parts as I'm not planning to compete with this car, just play. Can I get this car below 2000lbs? If not then how much, I dont want to put exotic materials on the car like carbon fiber panels! I am looking to do this for about $3-$5K+ the car (not including cage). I have wheels and tires for the car. I'm pretty sure I will have to have an LSD or Type R Trans with built in one? Any input on that? So there are a lot of cars out here for sale with different level of mods, most have headers, intakes etc. I'm looking for the best possible shock/suspension package within reason. What else I can do to this car to make it faster other getting rid of weight? Can this car be competitive with an equal driver of a bone stock older Z06 on street tires? I'm not trying to be the fastest guy at the track, but a fun FWD car that I can loan to my friends that wont hurt them and be easy to drive as well. Am I looking at the right car?

Welcome, im in same area as you. Hope to see you at track days at Thunderhill. One thing to remember about nor cal tracks is Laguna is 92dB limit, Thunderhill and Sears Point are 103dB.

If you want a good car out of the box for tracking i suggest an Integra Type R, its already stripped and is stich welded. Best bang for the buck.

I weighed my car in march at 2345 LBS at Sacramento Raceway. This puts the car in about 2150lbs. I have since then removed a lot more and is probably 2100 LBS or slightly below. A friend of mine completly stripped his car out, (Dash and all) and is 2000lbs. If you want something lighter, i suggest a crx or a civic hatch. I would start with a stock car, or a car with basic bolt ons and go from there, you seem to have racing knowledge, so you will know what needs to be replaced. shoot me a PM if you have questions man.

Paragraphs. No one likes reading a giant block.

Aside from weight reduction, based on your description you should talk to Patrick (OGstackadolla) who races with no engine mods but suspension and braking upgrades only. If the plan is just to play, then I would just say to get a good set of coilovers and chassis bars to tighten up the movement on turns. Integra's are awesome track runners for FWD cars.

If you care for the looks at all, I think the Integra is the way to go. If you're just looking for a FWD track monster, then I would suggest you pick up an EG shell and drop in a good honda motor. They have a bit more potential, I just think they're a bit drab in the looks department. My buddy has one with an H22b and it flies.

So I bought a 96 Integra with an B16 block with GSR head (possibly from a B17) with a turbo already installed. It looks like for now the engine should be OK. I have not spent much time with the car. It needs a tune really bad. I'm looking for the right direction for the shocks (track only) and the right LDS for the car? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

What's your price range for suspension?

I would like to keep it around $1k or less, is that possible for good quality shocks for these cars?

Not for road racing imo

What type of spring rates, from my limited research I have found out that I will need close to 1000lbs springs in the front and heavier in the back? Does this sound right? I dont really want a car that is totaly on the edge all the time. Are Koni's capable of supporting that heavy of the spring?

Having a car that's constantly on the edge wouldn't be great for a beginner. I still have issues with rear downforce and it causes my rear to twitch if I don't adjust my spoiler pitch
