its for my 97 civic sedan

here's the deal
i open any door, the light doesnt turn on.
i flip the dome light switch from 'door' to 'on' and it works.

ive looked for a dome light or door fuse. nothing... what the heez?!

also, has an after market alarm. but i dont think that would cause the problem..

Did it just all of a sudden happen? Also, when you open the door with the car on, does the door ajar indicator come on?

its been like this since ive got the car or it happened not so long after i picked it up..
the door ajar indicator does come on when a door is open.

im thinking its the dome light itself. prolly gonna crack that bad boy open tomorrow and check for loose connections..

Yea if the door light comes on then it's something dome wise, If you've got the know how double check the switch is making contacts etc in that door open position

if the dash light is coming on for door ajar then it is in the wiring between the switch and light...

if it wasn't coming on, then could have been the pin switch in the door.

pull the dome light and test the switch circuit there first and then start back tracing it.

Does the car have an aftermarket radio? If so that's why the dome stopped working when you open the doors.

What do after market radio's have to do with that? If anything, what would they do to cause that.. and what would you do to fix that? My teg has that same exact issue. (Also has an aftermarket radio...)

Something that I noticed though was around 90mph the door ajar light dimly came on.. with the door obviously not ajar. Not really sure, I was thinking it could be the door switch.

If you figure it out, be sure to post. I need to know too lol.

having a aftermarket radio has nothing to do with a dome light.. maybe a dimmer switch if you hooked something up to the dimmer wire which by dimmer i mean the wire that on the factory radio causes it to go dim when you dimmed your dash lights.

alot of people have mistaken a dimmer wire for a ground if probing wires with a test light/meter as it shows ground till you turn on the headlights.

either using a multi-meter or a two stage test light you can check at the dome light to see if you have a good circuit... normally the door switch is what fails as this gets the most use.

Yeah my dome light has decided not to work even when I turn it to 'on'. Maybe the bulb or fuse... hmmm.

I remember reading somewhere a while ago that the factory radio for a 96 to whatever year civic has something to do with the dome light, so when you replace the factory radio with an aftermarket one the dome light stops working when a door is opened. Plus my moms civic did it when tue aftermarket radio was put in.
