what type of switches can be use? would amperage matter? i seen some very tiny tiny buttons in radioshack i was wondering if it can be used? for example model number 275-409 its rated 3 amps

you will have to use a relay, unless the unit your tapping into is less than 3 amps. Yes amperage matters
