He seems like a pretty credible source, but I can see what hes saying.
hes right, all my friends with rich tunes destroy their 02 sensors in 6 months, couldn't imagine what it would do to a cat, forgot about that lol.

A good tune should not be overly rich or lean, the perfect tune is right in the middle- and with a GOOD tune, you shouldn't hurt the cat. Yeah, it's going to be a little one way or the other, but a tune that's slightly on the rich side should not plug it very fast. If you are running so rich you're plugging cats, you're running waaaaay too much fuel.

think if he already HAS the cat, then yeah, run it. If you're just trying to quiet down the exhaust, run a glass pack, resonator- what have you.. run another muffler. I wouldn't buy a cat to quiet it down, but it's worth a try if you already own it.

Shut up baby, I know it!
Actually, running slightly on the leaner side does nothing to the cat up to a certain point, its actually running rich that destroys your cat., and your o2 sensors. Catalytic converters in the 21st century, which not many of you appear to be in yet, are specifically designed to be compatible with high exhaust temps from boost applications, and do not use the same materials you would normally find in early 90s catalytic converters, or most any of the cats from the decade our cars were built. That being said, you dont want to run "slightly on the lean side for conserving gas", you want to be stoich at part throttle. Which means 14.7 AFR or in and around that AFR. Running slightly leaner not only increases EGT's but increases temperatures in your cylinders, on your valves, and your o2 sensors.

air pumps pump COLD air into the exhaust, which SIMULATES a lean AFR, the AFR is not actually lean at all. you will notice that alot on california emissions cars, where they have a tube that goes from the air intake to the exhaust side of the head or in the manifold itself.

lol Guys guys GUYS!!
So I got the cat installed for about a week now. It sounds great and its just how i want it. Fairly quiet @Low rpms and ROARS when Boost kicks in.
(Oh and you can hear the turbo spool up now, and BOV whistle cleanly)

Havent noticed the greatest amount of difference in performance.
But eventually I will get flanges welded onto my cat so I can put a straight pipe on it when needed.
