Any vehicle with engine/drivetrain issues IMHO is not worth the hassle. Unless you already have the parts to fix it. For example,

My car came with a blown motor, I paid $800. But, I had the time, money and an extra engine to put in it. So, for me, it was worth it to buy a car with an issue.

For someone like yourself, I'd look at cars that don't need any expensive work done. That transmission could be a problem. I'm not an expert by any means when it comes to autotragic, but I suspect it could be more than meets the eye. I wouldn't offer more than 1200-1500 for it. I'd rather it have no tranny than a trashed one. Cuz that saves the mad scientist and I from having to rip it out. You have the power when it comes to buying. He wants your money more than you want his car. With your budget though, I'd be looking into a 1st or 2nd gen, a clean 3rd gen is not within your range. But, a sweet ass 2nd gen is right in your budget. Just my humble :2cents

Went to ggo see another integra. Offered him $1800. The only thing wrong with it, is the transmission kicks when it shifts from 1st threw third. The guy ssaid it might be the rear mount. Any insight to this? It jerks the car rough. It ddefinitely needs a fluid and filter change, oil change, and new vc gasket. http://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/2812440758.html

Whenever picking up an Automatic that ALREADY has issues, it's best to test drive the shit out of it. Do a lot of heavy throttle and what not, just to make sure it will keep shifting throughout it's days. It's also a good idea when picking up a car to find out why the transmission acts up, and what it will take to fix it. Whenever I buy a car or truck that has an issue with something, I ALWAYS price a junkyard transmission/engine so that if it comes down to it, I can get it replaced.

Well, I got on it a bit during the test drive, and it only jerks from first to second, and second to third is way smoother. The engine is quiet and runs smooth, and it rides perfect. To me, the car seems fine. My dad did notice that he smelt burnt tranny fluid, or the presence of it, so it could just need a fluid change. According to him, the old lady and her neighbor that owned it before him took it to Acura for maintenance and the transmission did that always. At this point, I'm not too worried about it. I need a daily driver like now, and this is the cleanest and lowest mile auto integra i've seen in the past two months at the price I can afford. I'm going to be doing an oil change, oil filter change, air filter change, hopefully transmission flush and refill and maybe a filter change, and plugs/wires. The brakes are perfect, shocks and springs don't bounce like they're blown, and it rides so smooth. It has get up, and go. It handled nicely on ice and snow. I had the jerkiness in my D16Y7 civic hatch. it didn't bother me much and it gave me 2000+ miles in the short 2 months that I drove it. I don't know much about these B-series, but I'm willing to take this head on.

Thanks man, I know I'm being naive here, but I'm really desperate for a car and can't afford to wait much longer. Putting gas in fords that get less than 20 MPG isn't very cost effective, especially with how much I drive.
