Hello to all- New to integras and tuning. Got Knowledge?

turbo's kick ass, but they are expensive and require a deal of knowledge. how fast do you want your car to be exactly? the cheapest way to gain hp is nitrous. if you want to just be able to hang with 350z, you can leave everything completely stock and spray a 75shot. if you want faster, you will need to look into an aftermarket header, intake, intake manifold, cams, high flow cat, exhaust, etc. but after you spend all that money, you could have purchased a turbo kit and decimate the NA (naturally aspirated. aka no forced induction like a turbo or supercharger) version i just described. There are a lot of good companies nowadays, my favorites are:

suspension - tein, omni, skunk2, k sport
nitrous - nitrous express
turbo related parts - afi, peakboost, spoolin performance, garrett, synapse, tial
intake - ebay with aem or k&n filter
header - hytech replica, smsp,
exhaust - skunk2, greddy, apexi, spoon, t1r,
Intake Manifold - Skunk2, Edelbrock
Cams - skunk2, buddy club,

im sure im forgetting a ton, but thats a quick rundown. my favorite mods to do are the little things. IMO, all the little things you do will make a big difference. things like a rear wiper delete, clock block off, shift knob, shift boot, e brake boot/lever, etc etc. little stuff is important.

I once read in a drift article that the basic for driving should take place with suspension tweaks and knowing how you're car handles. Isolate that then play with power.

thats a great point. most ppl never test their cars limits so whenever they find themselves in an "emergency" maneuver situation they are unable to respond properly. i think you should have to take an emergeny maneuver test in order to get your drivers license. something like drive thru these cones and every so often have something pop out they have to avoid. hit the object or cone and fail. and then put like simulated ice patches on the course. im tired of shitty drivers; any1 can get a license these days.

First and fore most: Thank you so much to everyone for your helpful insights! I greatly appreciate it.

As to the test, I totally agree. I have actually been testing the car quite a bit. I live in oregon so i deal with rain, sleet, SNOW, and lots of hydroplaning. Of coarse there will always be a situation that will have to test you and something WILL go down. My friend Murphy has written a law about that. He's a complete dick!

I plan on starting with things I can install myself. I have bought a lot of books that pertain to performance on tuning on acuras. Along with the chilton for my stead. I'm going to start with things like intake, headers, exhaust, cat, ect..ect.. and work my way from easiest to install to hardest. I want to learn everything I can on my way and I want to make sure after each piece I install I drive the car for a bit and get used to it bit by bit. That way all of sudden I just have this ride that drives me rather than the other way around.

I really want to learn about the engine and adding cams and that sort of stuff. i'm in the process of buying an old cop still painted black and white and then painting a dog on the side with a star saying below it, Deputy dog. This way I can have another fun car to drive while working on the current acura.

So again, thank you so much for everything and I really appreciate it. If anyone is from portland oregon area and wants to teach some hand on in exchange for some cold beers, please let me know.

PLease keep dropping useful information, It is more then welcome.

Man I hit a slippery spot once and my eyes got big and round..>>> <<< like that...

edit: speaking of cones..i wanna find an undeveloped road or something to test out some things

i used to go behind walmart parking lots and set up a cone course and drive it in reverse as fast as i could.

Set a budget for yourself and decide weather you want to stay N/A (naturally aspirated) meaning no forced induction (ie; turbo, supercharger, nitrous) or go the F/I (forced induction) route.

If you are currently undecided I would say to work on the suspension and anything else the car might need(brakes, tires, etc.)

Welcome to the site.

yeah do the suspension, brakes, wheels first until you decide what you want to do performance wise. it sucks buying parts and then having to sell them since you changed your mind.

How much possible horse power can you get out of a N/A ? I would like to get 300+ horsepower, but I'm not even sure if that's possible. If not, then I'll just see what the options are I can get and just make do.

So if you guys know the difference of horsepower of a F/I and N/A 94 acura integra gsr? That information would help me make my decision. I'm also googling right now. Also, would I be able to do Cold air now before deciding? Why would I have to decide on F/I or N/A later and not be able to upgrade, lets say, Intake, exhaust, manifold, header, ect...ect...

You are not going to get 300 N/A horsepower and there really isn't a limit for the amount of horsepower you can produce with a F/I setup. (ok maybe 600 on a decent budget)

Maybe if you want to spend a lot of cash you can get 250hp N/A but if your wanting numbers above 300 just boost it. You can turbo a stock gsr motor and still get 350hp reliably with decent gas milage.

Upgrading things like intake and exhaust is pointless because if you do decide to turbo it your intake is pointless because it probably won't fit. You will need a turbo manifold which will be different than an N/A exhaust manifold. You will also need a bigger exhaust than if you were to run an N/A setup so that is pointless because if you put that on now you will just loose power.

Wait... What?
Your best bet is to set a goal for the entire car.... plan the whole build out, price it, then start buying all of the pieces.
