Goes into every other gear fine but occasionally I go to shift i
nto second, but it doesn't actually engage the gear. The shifter moves fine into position but it doesn't bite.

When it happens you let off the clutch and it just revs up like its in neutral and there is a slight grinding noise.

What could this be? Syncros possibly?

Has a exedy clutch if that makes a difference

Before we blame the transmission, lets make sure your shifter linkage is in good condition. How are the shifter bushings? Is there a lot of slop in the shifter? You can also get under the car and manipulate the shift linkage into 2nd by hand.

Very little slop in the shifter. If physically goes into second, like you can put the shifter into second. Just ocassionally it misses the gear if that makes sense.

Happend on my DA going into reverse. You'd put it into reverse and give it gas and it would rev up and kinda grind, that's why I suspected the syncros.

When is the last time your fluid was changed? I would change the fluid and see if that helps with the grinding.

Are you sure you are putting it all the way into gear?

Does it pop out of 2nd when you can get it to go in?

Doesn't pop out, and its not grinding as if you don't have the clutch in, its a quieter grinding and just revs up. Could be because of play in the linkage, just seems nice and tight.

I'm going to do trans fluid on the weekend, not sure when it was last done as I've only had the car for a few weeks

I get the same thing for first and reverse.

Mine only like to go into gear if your on a slight incline or I'd you double clutch.

I suspect syncros.

You're not putting the "shifter" into second, you're putting the transmission into second. if the transmission isn't going into second when you move your shifter you have a problem with your linkage.

Strange. Shifter feels good and tight, could just be because of the swap.

It hasnt been happening very frequently. Maybe twice since the op, dailying every day.

At least that means it shouldn't be the trans!
