Ok today's update: Mechanic still has not recieved the new distributor, it will probably be in tommorrow. Once again the rebuilt one did not start the car. He said he was going to check/test the rebuilt distributor but had not done it yet. They also asked me if the car had been "sitting up" for awhile. I told them that it sat for a year or so before I bought it, but I immediately took it to a shop and told them to tune it up and whatever it needed since it had been sitting so long. That was about nine months ago and no problems till recently. What kind of things need to be checked or replaced if a car has been sitting up? Obviously spark plugs, oil change, fuel filter, etc. but could this potentially be a permanent problem? Thanks for all the input, this place is great.8)

Im trying to figure how an "oil light" is related to a distributor going bad....:2confused

Unless maybe oil was leaking from somewhere into it... and there was a loss of oil pressure... then since the dizzy was fouled with oil it wouldnt start after it died....

Idk...

Let us know :)

Don't pretty much all the lights come on when the car dies? (Brake, oil, check engine, etc.) i'm not trying to be a smartass, I don't know the answer. I asked them about the oil light today and they said they checked for problems with oil pressure and related problems first. I've about run out of patience with these shops around here. My car has been in the shop a month now. Plus there is no taxi service in this fucking hick town so I have no way to the bank, grocery store, etc.

to me it sounds like the shop is taking advantage of you, cause you car ran perfectly fine for 9 months and all that went wrong was your brakes. so i want you to tell me how your brakes caused you oil light to come on, your dizzy to go bad, and car to randomly shut off and not start again?

also check the background of the shop and make sure that they have experience with imports mainly honda/acura

what i think is that they have no experience with hondas/acuras and when they put on the new timing belt on they messed somthing up like:
1) timing was off
2) removed the dizzy and yanked on the wires
3)removed dizzy and didn't put it back on timing
4) while removing all the covers they cracked/broke a sensor or pulled on the wire to short it out

I agree with you that it does'nt add up. Unfortunately, the dealership or an import shop is well over 60 miles away. All the local shops are no better, this is the third one I've been to over two years. This one came the most highly recommended. I'm going up there tommorrow, assuming I can find a ride. But I don't know what good it will do.

I will bring this up while I'm there, as well as any other recommendations anyone might have. Thanks

Wow you guys jumped to conclusion quickly the engine was blown. If it has no oil in it the car wouldn't have made it 12+ miles. The bearing would seize quickly. The oil light will come on when the car dies. Loss of oil pressure triggers the switch. Your not start issue could be because of a few things. First I would go into the shop and check your timing belt. They replaced it and if it jumped time your car won't start. Next do you hear fuel, or even have spark

Don't leave that shop until you have confirmed your timing is correct and you can hear fuel pump and have spark. Worst case with timing belt I was a shitty one and it snapped causing you to have no spark.

That's how I would approach this problem if it came into my shop.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for. I will do as you say in this post, it was mentioned before, and I'll lay it out just like that. Once again thanks to everyone for their input. I'm going to follow these posts and keep you updated.

how much are you in on the bills?
just curious?
The repairs so far total about $900. Master cylinder, timing belt, power steering belt, oil change, brake light switch, starter, and labor. Plus $150 in towing (not included in $900 listed) which I'm sure I'll have to fight with the insurance company to reimburse me. Needless to say, I'm broke so they will have to fix it for free...
