Error code 1457

My daily driver is a 2002 RSX Type S with 290+k miles on it. I've owned it since '04. For the past year I've had an error code 1457 pop up. If I reset it, it comes back usually in 2 days. Though I've had it stay off for a week or longer on occasion. My first thought was gas cap. Which I replaced. But the problem still persists. Any ideas?

The error code is for the evaporative emission control system. I reset it back on January 2 and it has stayed off for the past 2 weeks. I did refill the car the beginning of the week and have burned off about2 1/2 gallons since. I live in Wisconsin and we have had some really cold weather on and off over those weeks. And whatever the problem is, it seems to be affected by the cold.

Gas cap is the easy answer. But these cars are getting old now... Check the hoses near the EVAP canister and purge valve for any cracks, splits, or loose connections, and swap them out if they’re damaged. A leak there will set off that code. Also, take a look at the EVAP canister for any signs of cracks or leaks. If its not one of those you are looking at the sensor most likely.
