Drop the speed limit to 55mph and help fight terrorism, lower gas prices, help earth!

nothing from nowhere
Simple. Much of our oil comes from over seas from places like OPEC. The greater the demand for fuel, the greater the chances are that more of our oil is coming from places like OPEC that have been linked to funding terrorists activities.
We're Fueling Terrorism
So if we drive slower, we use less oil/gas, meaning less of it comes from overseas that may be funding terrorists networks. The faster we drive, the greater the demand, the more money we need to send overseas to import oil, more likely that some of that money is funding terror organizations. Does that make a little more sense?
cant deny this, there it is in black and white

Honestly, fuck this. The fact that this thread is even allowed on this site pisses me off. It's probably because I'm just some stupid teenager but seriously OP you're arrogant. The way people drive these days would note cope well with 55mph speed limit. In fact let's take it to the other end of the spectrum and build a damn autobahn from the east coast to the west coast (see how stupid that sounds?). Why not just lower the gearing so our cars don't burn as much on gas. Either way, soon enough there'll be a way to bypass fossil fuels altogether. Anyway, back to my main point. You're arrogant.

It's so heated in here. This is the only comment I will post on this thread. Remember, this is the lounge. He's allowed to post something like this. Calling him arrogant because of a disagreement kinda irks me. I blame this my debate class for this. He is entitled to his opinion. It's not going to change. Can't we just agree to disagree? I'm so sorry for bumping this thread. I'm out.

Eh, I've come to terms that this whole thread is propaganda that no one will buy into except OP. You've been trying to convince everyone for this long to no avail. Sorry it didn't work out :(

Xjo, your comment is based on a lack of information. There is no propaganda here as everything I have said has a factual basis... I wish more of you thought critically like JdmJim and I do. Denying what I am saying for the sake of argument is not helpful in any way. Take the facts or live in a fantasy world where you don't want to believe them, that is your choice.

Why in the hell was this thread "cleaned up" and re-opened?... It's just going to end up in the same s*** storm predicament.

But... Let's get into it again.

In 1973, Due to a huge oil shortage the national highway speed limit WAS reduced to 55MPH and had a 85% compliance rate. You know what that did to high populated cities? Terrible traffic jams. It was equivalent to closing 3 of the 4 lanes on a highway in rush hour traffic... This will be beneficial if everyone drove a car like a Prius or Volt because the batteries re-charge as you brake and you will then be doing a lot more braking then going 55MPH (I believe the Prius motor is always spinning but not fully functioning until 41MPH, I think the volt is 50MPH)... All while, Our cars use more gas in stop and go traffic then it does when driving on a clear highway going 65MPH. (Our EPA estimate is based on the current national highway max speed of 65MPH).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Maximum_Speed_Law
And a discussion I had with a few of my older friends over a beer.

here's a video of some college students, getting in their own cars and going side by side at 55MPH to see the outcome... What happened? Traffic.

Although you are right, Going 55MPH will save gas... But it doesn't work with all the cars we have out here in the states, and particularly big cities like Houston, Phoenix, San Francisco (which is always already congested), Los Angeles, San Jose, Washington, New York etc...

And to just be myself... A religious guy telling someone else that they're in a fantasy world. Oh the irony.

Good morning. How did this thread get unlocked? Lol nothing like a good ol' debate to start the morning off right before work.

Well then, for the sake of argument and from the realm of my "fantasy world" I'll respond with this final piece and be done with it. All that I will do afterward is read the funny responses against this anti-terrorism conceptual theory.

So....

Factual basis and a lack of my understanding? Please break me off a piece of that KitKat bar. I read this whole thread and you provided NOTHING to support your "factual" claim. Nothing even close to a reliable and credible source or expert analyst to provide solid information. What this thread consists of is your responses as to why everyone is wrong and you are right (not why you're right, that you're just right) and your accusations that those who don't believe this concept are selfish. You're the selfish one based on all your previous responses. You're no expert in this subject so I suggest you stop spreading it as something true. That's why I called it your propaganda. You're pushing something on people without any information and you're expecting buy-in just because you think it sounds like a good idea? Your whole "factual" concept just got thrown out the window.

Critical thinking? Please tell me why this concept requires critical thinking when everything about it is laid out in simple things to follow? Unless you're a qualified and professional analyst yourself with specialized knowledge, all you did was read something, and CHOSE to believe it but never saw it in actual practice and taking effect. Is that what critical thinking is? Here's how I critically thought of this:

Nice concept, not achievable, not believable, only one person here fighting for it, he sees the value of it but I personally will cancel that value because he has always been about saving gas according to his hyper-mile thread and now he just found a good excuse to back it up, no buy-in from anyone else here, no sound responses, no factual data to support claim, calls everyone selfish for not believing in him, tells us we're not thinking critically, expects others to follow his lead, continues to respond that everyone against it is selfish, and still provides no sound responses or proof of his claim.

I respect your opinion on it and think its admirable that you do it because you believe in that concept but it's just a far-fetched idea, not a fact of anything but an unproven argument with no standing. As I stated before, you made this thread with no information that is factual and expected immediate buy-in. It was a nice try, but an epic failure.

You have a Gs-R, not a prius; so obviously your 'care' only goes so far.
They actually have a term for what you are; well, actually quite a few, but for the sake of not being a total dick, I'll avoid the rest and leave it at this: HERE
