I agree with most of the stuff on in this thread, but some of it is a little short-sighted. i agree with those of you that get irritated at your friends who say the movies made you want to soup up your car. but those movies made ME want to soup up my car. thing is i want to do it right, my way.
just don't shortchange the movie's effect on our culture. because of those movies, its cool to soup up your car (even if soupin it up means throwin on some euro tails......whatever floats your boat.) Because of those movies, people are buyin performance parts. that spurns on the development of new crap. and you cant tell me that you dont want new stuff to be designed for our cars.
i know that new stuff would have popped up even without thise movies, but they are a big motivating factor. basically what i'm sayin is that i'll put up with what people say and think of me and my ride as long as they are throwin money into the economy. the payoff is more than worth a little irritation.

i hate dodge neons with those gay ass spoilers thinking they are fast with the exhaust but they always try to race me and half the time i let them win because i dont feel like wasting gas. then they show up to the track talking shit then we race and they are 2 sec slower me. i tell them to get a real car that isnt a domestic 4 cylinder piece of shit.

haha i hate those freakin neons too. but what i hate worse are those backwater, trailer park trash dummies that drive v6 camaros and mustangs with flowmasters. just cuz you got a mustang dont mean its fast......
i test drove a v6 mustang......it had borla duals on it and sounded filthy. it was an automatic :roll: and the zero to sixty was horrible, something like 9 seconds. :shock:

and to top it all off, insurance on that pile would have been $7 grand a year for me for full coverage. :bs:

Yeah those damn Neons piss me off too. But you can't really talk shit about the Neon SRT-4. Those things run 13s, but it is still a Neon.
Of course the movie made these kid who are now starting to drive want to soup up their car because its the cool thing to do, but it gives us people who are doing it right and not being stupid racing all the time a bad name and bringing cop trouble our way.

ya amen to the cop trouble thing. i clean windows for a living, and theres one town in particular that is BAD for cracking down on spo-coms. i swear if a cop sees (or hears) my teggy i get followed til i leave town. its bad, they stay across the road while i work. i may be there cleanin for 30 or 40 mins, but when i hop in my car, they're right behind me again. go figure. :lame
on a side note, have any of you guys ever set off a car alarm on a parked car when you pull up next to em and rev your motor? i have two times the past three weeks. its pretty freakin hilarious. the person comes out and resets the alarm, and as they walk back in the store or wherever i rev again and re-trip the alarm. haha -- i guess at that point i fall into the category you mentioned downshift of those stupid punk racer kids, lol.

I set off alarms all the time with my exhaust. Not purposely though. Especially when I'm in a parking garage. I know what you mean about the cop vs import deal. I get looked at wrong because I have an import. But on the other hand, there are very very very few cops who are cool about it. In my city, i've met 3. One of them had a 937 WHP Supra, the others just don't give a shit what we do as long as we're not stupid, but the rest are assholes.
