I don't know about you, but it usually is a bit of "Do it yourself" mixed with books. If I just read a book, I'll absorb like 2% of the knowledge. If i'm doing it while reading it, I'll remember it better.
Thats why its good to have a book with you while you work, as a reference. ;)

When I do something new, I have my laptop and the Honda service manual open.

Yes, I usually take my manual with me when i'm working on teggy. :D

It is nice to be able to google the problems right there, but I don't have wifi at my house so my laptop is useless here lol.

biggest peice of advice i've ever gotten from ANYONE was my dad and grandpa, i learned from growing up with my dad and grandpa who are both mechanics... but they always told me, that if i wanted to learn i would have to go look it up if they didnt have time, and if i had a question ask, because the only stupid mistake is not asking a question... not messing up! yes when i first started cars, i messed up alot.... but thats how i learned!! so good luck dude, just ask ask ask ask ask! their is alot of people who are willing to help you no problem!!! and yes manuals help a ton!!

I'll agree with that. But if you ask questions, your less likely to mess up.
I know i've done something more than once, when it's all back together I had to pull it all back apart lol.
