ya ive seen this picture before. see that difference is intense, i'd pony up for that.
Yeah factory HID > aftermarket. Most good retrofits involves changing the projector lens too and it's hard to do so most people would never do it. Have tried $50 ebay kits, they are terrible. Minimum you should ever spend is $100 on a decent kit which will at least produce good light and be reliable.

When I first put in a $200 HID kit in my Z I was so happy with it. Drove around one night testing them out then this Accord Euro came up behind me, put my freshly installed HIDs to shame and he lit up the road for both of us.

A lot of new cars already come with HID ready projectors but to make money off options they sell it with halogens. Cars like that you can plug in a good aftermarket kit it'll be just as good but older cars like ours, fork over the extra cash, it's worth it.

no kidding, i never knew that. Ive seen some people change out the projector lens on our USDM head lights and it look amazing, but i didnt know it made that much of a difference! this is going to the top of my to-do list.

Yeah, the OEM HID setups are far more superior over the kits...As stated above the oem setups are designed to output much more lighting over the kits..thus the extra $$$. The design and reflective housing/shields produce a lighting pattern to be safe and functional.
What ive seen guys doing... not getting the actual type r setup. They get the Sir-G setup (same front but cheaper sometimes) and just source the HID headlamps (usually the chrome backs)
some places sell that front for like $700.
Also you can piece that front from people selling it out part by part...but it takes some time to complete lol
