If you're looking to keep the space in the trunk, try looking for a JL audio stealthbox. They're not in production anymore so they're a bit hard to find but the box sits in the spare tire well and it's a really clean look overall.

I got mine on Ebay. It was described as "carpet", but it' more like trunk liner. It was around $30 shipped for a roll 4 feet wide, 15 feet long.
