Coil on plug vs spark plug and dizzy

So i've been hearing mixed reviews of the AEM coil on plug kit vs having a Dizzy with good wires and plugs. Some prefer COP while others prefer the MSD cap and wires.. What are y'all's take on those? I'm looking for better ignition, and open to suggestions please.

there are slot of advantages in going
EI ( electronic ignition )this could be Cop or coil systems .

first of all a EI system is controlled by a ignition control module and connected to the vehicles computer .
by doing this we can more accurately control our
-spark timing and advance

Distributorless ignition systems are capable of producing much higher energy then a conventional ignition system .

but since DI and EI systems both fire spark plugs with approximately the same air gap across the electrodes , the voltage required to start firing the spark plugs in both systems is similar

but I'f the additional energy in the EI systems is not released on the form of voltage, it will be released in the form of current flow . this results in higher firing current and longer spark plug firing times .

the average firing time across the spark plugs electrodes in an EI system is 1.5 ms compared to approximately 1 ms in a DI system .

this extra time may seem insignificant, but it is very important .current emission standards demand leaner air/fuel ratios and this additional spark duration on EI systems helps to prevent cylinder misfiring with leaner air/fuel ratios

hope this helps .

That helped a great deal actually, I understand it quite well. So what would be the best system then? I want something for better combustion without affecting emissions in a negative manner. I just need suggestions now on what type of system to buy because i'm going to be running a b series engine.

I definitely want distributorless ignition for sure, my dizzy's getting worn out and I want something a little better anyway.

I don't think there are aftermarket coil set ups out there . so
your best bet is to get COP

Ok cool, I saw the AEM COP setup for $748 on a few sites for the b series vtec/non vtec engine. I was thinking about it for sure, cuz my dizzy is degrading it seems.

Hondata is quite a reputable company as well. They got it for a b-series engine though then I take it? I know, stupid question but it's for confirmation.

Unless you are at that point in your build where a coil pack will help you, money can be better spent elsewhere, but Hondata also has a set, a lot of people retrofit the RSX ones too.

Oh alright, thanks for the info. And i'm not looking for the engine I got now.. Going for a b18 or b20 build with a turbo at some point. I'm more asking for future purposes. But still, very helpful, thanks to everyone.

Ok, that sounds good. I got a friend who wants to sell me his s300 from his DC for like.. 150 so that makes for a good start

Might wanna read up on the Hondata COP setup. 1. Its still uses a distributor. 2. It dosn't come wih the coil packs

http://www.hondata.com/hondata_coil_pack_retrofit.html

Now lets look at AEMs COP setup: 1. "AEM’s COP B-series Conversion Kit is the perfect ignition upgrade for naturally-aspirated or boosted B-Series engines that do not exceed 15 PSI of boost. " 2. They advise you to spend yet another $369 for their twin fire ignition module if you plan on running more then 15psi lmfao.

Personally unless your trying to make 750+whp its pointless to buy as stock ignitions have been proven to make that power over and over again. Its your money though so do as you wish, just thought id give you some more food for thought.

That is good info for sure, not knockin that. But I may be only running 14 pounds of boost. Maybe more but yet, i'm only doing research as of now, to help me improve my knowledge when I decide to build up and whatnot.

14 PSI is just a safe bet for now, and when I feel like i know my engine can handle it, I will crank it up. Target really is 20-27 psi MAYBE that high.. Still debating.
