broke one of my camshaft holder bolts on my b18b1. tightened it too tight and it twisted off. my question is would it still be alright to drive? cuz i really need my car running for work by monday. it wont be permanent just for a little while. thanks in advance.

If you over tightened one then youve probably over tightened them all. Replace all the cam cap bolts and get a fn torque wrench! You have plenty of time to fix this before Monday.

ditto, get a torque wrench, a small one, i used a big torque wrench to tighten mine and ended up busting the bolts. Also, i would not recommend driving it like that.

i do have a torque wrench. and i torqued 1 bolt down then went to the next and it twisted off. weather was cold so not sure if it factored into it breaking so easily.

I agree with getting a small torque wrench. I stretched a cam cap bolt or something like that which required somewhere around 7-10 ftlbs and it almost snapped. That definitely would have ruined my day.

Two problems that occur when torquing cam cap bolts:

1.) People misread the torque spec. "81 in/lbs." They think ft/lbs and snap it off. It's roughly 7-8 ft/lbs.

2.) The torque wrench being used can not actually torque that low- therefore they never hear the click and keep going until it snaps.

No, I would not run the motor like that.

get you a nice Craftsman 3/8 drive In/Lb clicker torque wrench from sears. I think I paid $40 for it....one of my best investments

I wouldn't rent one. You don't know if the last person that used it dropped it, went over the max torque for that wrench, or when the last time was that autozone had it calibrated and checked for accuracy. Buy one its only $40...
