burning too much gas

65-75 with consistent speed, even tire pressures with even wear, suspension in good shape, you could see almost 40 mpg on the highway as long as the engine is healthy. My LS with a 194k miles would consistently give me 35-38 mpg highway last summer with 30-32 around town.

Make sure timing is correct, tires are good (play a huge role), no dragging brake pads or caliper pistons, make sure plugs and wires are good, dizzy is good, check your fluids and make sure they don't look out of the ordinary (milky oil, dark trans fluid, etc), check your alignment and make sure the car actually goes straight when you're trucking along. Many factors play into this.
