Black headlight housing?

Just got ticketed $109 for my green HIDs the other night, so I won't be doing anything like this to attract any extra attention to my lights. Does look cool though, maybe down the road. I'd also be curious about it altering light output. Lights are carefully designed and have to meet certain regulations in the way light is output, so I imagine anything to do with the lights or even the reflectors would technically be an insurance violation.

Closer pix of those headlights would be nice so I could see what exactly is going on and I agree, a black grill always looks nicer!

I just painted my headlights black myself actually and also put hid's in and it doesn't look bad in terms of light distribution at all. I will post pictures up when I get back to my car. The only thing that I was disappointed with was the reflectors in my brights... I just painted the bezels(sp?) so the reflectors for the brights would be functional if needed. Since they are still the chrome it stands out like crazy. It will make sense when I have pics.

I don't think the chrome housing makes a difference because we have projector headlights to distribute the light. In comparison, the Acura RDX doesn't have chrome housings for their projector headlights. I think it's just for looks, or a precaution for on-coming cars to see you. Without them you'd see just the projector and your amber corner lights, with the chrome you'd see part of your light distribution in the chrome housing.
