So, Kurt, you mentioned that I should get an enduro bike and do a conversion for the wheels and tires? I can't remember which rims you said to get, but what do you think of a fuel injected KTM 450 exc conversion?
You don't want ktm or anything with a competition engine unless you wanna look at $1500-3000 usd maintenance a year.
When I say dual sport I meant like Suzuki's DRZ's or Honda's XR's and kawasaki's less popular KLR They only need regular oil changes and simple stuff.
KTM's need insane amount of valve maintenance and competition engines like they use on MotoX and enduro bikes need oil changes every ride and full rebuilds about every 250 hours or 3000 miles which cost a lot.
Good bikes to look at are the: WR250R/WR250X DRZ400 (They make a factory supermoto version but it cost a bit more) and of course the XR line from honda.
You also want something that's already street legal because getting a non legal bike is expensive with the parts and paper work
And as for wheels, Warp9 makes solid rims for cheap and tires are up to you, Excel makes the best rims but they cost a pretty penny.
If you go for lacing your own wheels it will save you a bit of cash all you need are the rims and spokes for the new rim size or if you want to save you dirt wheels too you'll need to pick up a set of hubs as well, Lacing rims isn't hard it just requires patience.
Ok, thanks a lot. I really appreciate the help. Would a wr250x still be basic oil changes and valve adjustments? I like the looks of those bikes. Looks are just as important as ease of maintenance. I do want something easy to maintain. Would a 250 be enough?
I think the WR will be perfect. Good looks, easy maintenence, cheap on gas and insurance. I didn't realize until just now that that bike is what chase two wheels rides.
How big is the Beast R engine? I would be able to flat foot it, barely. :lol.
XR650R, It's more powerful than a 450 motoX bike and mine would do 0-100 in about 6 seconds
It's almost as tall as the monster YZ but wider, My brother is 6'3" and it was too much for him haha I'm on the line between 6'4" and 6'5" and it was just right.
But that's not the problem :rolf: I let 3 people try to start it and no one could even turn it over but me, The guy I sold it too just had me start it and rode it, I weighed 170lbs plus I always had 15-20lbs of gear.
There's not a lot that will earn my respect out of sheer power but that bike is one that will always be a monster to me, Just the way I like them
It's not some insane supernatural speed and torque machine but it's just so awesome!
Combine the size, The loud, Hard hitting thumping sound the engine makes, The snappy throttle, Some other little stuff and it's just a big brutal monster, I feel like I know why they don't make it anymore
