Let's not go there, but...your dad seems "penny wise and dollar foolish". He spends money on projects, which have no end in sight. Did he/you think that putting $9k into such an old "beater" car would make it reliable?
Been screwed--So scrap it or keep it?

No go on the RSX
Went to Ed Martin Acura a week ago and took a look at that 2006 RSX with 105,000 miles on it. It had been in a fender bender. (The bumper was a different color from the rest of the car). They wouldn't come down on the price of the car at all, and they only offered me $400 for my car. They acted like they were doing me a favor when I talked them up to $600. At any rate, I walked and I was glad because I would have been paying $1000 a year more in insurance to be driving around in that RSX. Also, I found out why my Integra is fogging and icing up inside. There are rust holes under the hatch where water is draining down into the bottom where the spare tire sets. I've got to find a welder or take it to a body shop. If I do that and get the front brake pads replaced and the alternator, which Autozone told me a few weeks ago is bad, then hopefully, the old '89 will last me several more years. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I dont know if that one has a timing chain but they do exist. All cars that I have seen have normal serpentine belts/ the rubber ones that run the A/C, Power Steering, etc...

I was skeptical myself and I pointed out to them that I read something in the manual about drive belts. Next time someone tells me something I'm not sure is believeable like that, I'll ask them to put it in writing. It was also noteworthy that they wouldn't provide me with a 30 day return policy. Seemed a little shady to me.
