I would just replace the headgasket and build it.

That 15ft. lbs of torque will make a bigger difference than you think. Yes the B16 will puts out more peak power. But it does it over 7500rpm and makes significantly less power throughout the rpm range. It is peaky and has less area under the curve. It makes less than 100hp all the way to 5800 rpms. It makes less than 75hp for the first 4600rpms. At 4600rpm, the b18b1 makes over 90hp and, at 5800rpms, it makes almost 120hp. This is the difference that counts. The B16 makes more peak power but comparing dyno charts shows the b18b1 betters it all the way to about 6500rpms

Thats why i qoriginally asked him if he was looking for a rool on car or a drag car. I already know the b16 puts less TQ at low rpm's it just depends where you would like your powerrange. On a high reving honda i would go with the HIGH powerband and screw lowend TQ.

LS Vtec=:)
if you wanna save money just re build it take it out and take it all apart so the shop dosent charge you to do so... me and my friend did this with his car and he put better rods and higher compression pistons in the rebuild only cost 1500 n its like having a new motor runs smooth as hell.

so if you do it right you can keep your cost down and end up paying much less then you think

Torque is just a factor of horsepower vs. RPM. By saying screw low RPM torque, you say screw lower RPM hp. Peaky high RPM hp numbers are not what get you down the track fast. A car the makes 500hp @ 8k and 150hp @ 5k will still be slow. The more area under the power curve, the faster the car will be. Its great that the 1.6 can make 160hp, but it only does it for like a tenth of a second and its all the way at 7600 RPM. That is where you spend the least amount of your time because the engine is accelerating so hard then but lugging around like a turd at 6K RPM where you spend more time accelerating. A B16 DC is slow.

A B16 DC will be slow. No faster than an LS for sure. B18B's are cheaper, use the extra money to build the 1.8! B16's are torqueless and like TegSox said, civics are lighter than Tegs. A mild built B18B will make a much better car than the B16A. What exactly is wrong with your B18B1
I agree.
