91 integra alternator replacement

Alternator gave out last week it's #3 Original then replacement 1 which lasted 1 yr then replacement 2 which has lasted about 6 years, so now I have to replace with #4

Problem is, just unemployed and dont have the 500 for the local mechanic. So I figure I will have a go

Looking for a recommendation Drop the strut etc or go the Master Cylinder route.

Anyone got any experience.

My Integra has 210k and up to now going reasonably strong.

Just spoke to my friendly service station guy (friendly with the Mrs) he knows my situation and he suggested the axle route, but smiled and indicated that in my situation the master cylinder route is just as good. (well that's what I took from his remark)

Jack your car up, and get under it.
Look at the back of the motor where the drivers side axle bracket bolts to it. There are three bolts.
Remove all three of them and move the bracket away from the motor.
You should have enough room to wiggle the axle and slide the alternator past it.

No removal of strut, no removal of master cylinder.
Easy peesy.

do the first one but you can also pull the axle out of the way by removing the castle nut from lower balljoint.. hit lower control arm right where the ball joint goes through move hub out of the way while removing the axel from the trans that will give you tons of room....

It's true that removing the axle gives you a ton more room, but to me I rather spend the time wiggling the alternator up past it instead of removing all the junk to get the axle out.

I have to say, this alternator brings the fail when it comes to position. The alternator and power steering pumps should have been swapped. Alternator on top and the PS tucked behind the motor next to the steering rack. Would have made everyone's life so much easier.

Alternator now fixed

Went the remove master cylinder route, reasonable straight forward, about 1 hr to remove 20 mins to replace, then bleed the brakes,

Total cost: 130 for alternator (autozone) + 80 battery (previous one was 10 yrs old) and I owe a buddy once I get a job.

Last time it was done it cost over 400 from the local mechanic (5 6 years ago)

Thanks to all who posted

That seems more problematic then three bolts on the axle bracket lol.

Prozon had the easiest way. As long as the car hasn't been wrecked up front lol. If your not Turbo and staying NA and loosing the AC I think I saw a relocation kit for the alt. I have even heard you could use the brackets off the f22 with a little molding and make them work if this is true or not I'm not sure just putting it out there.
Dsgb. When your looking at all the other threads titles right above them on the left of your screen. Click the new thread button there and wa la. Real simple buddy

EMD513- I think people just like to make themselves work more. It's literally like a ten minute job doing it my way lol.
My car HAS been wrecked up front. It was still easier, lol.

Really about the conversion? I think i'll get rid of the turbo so I can swap the alternator. :D

I will take a look at doing it Prozons way when the time comes ( and I save up the money lol)

3 bolts is easier than the rest.
