tinting

hey everyone, i have done a little searching through the forums looking on how to tint a few different things but not having luck so i thought i would just ask. not sure if this is the right spot for it.

i want to tint my turn signals, emblems, and possibly tail lights. i was most likely going to just buy window tint and apply to them (paint for emblems) so that if i got pulled over for it i could just peel it off. i wasn't sure how easy it is and if its the best way to go. i know someone that did it to their Mercedes and it looks really good, but they had the money to pay someone else to do it.

my signal lights are amber so if it would work and if i should replace the signal and tail lights with leds

also i am using just wheelies on my car but they are turning faded out black and brown and was wondering if i could just use a flat black paint on them to make them look a bit better.

im in the 3rd gen integra, silver if it'll help i can upload pics of what the car looks like now

Dpends on how dark you go. I had mine tinted on another car and they weren't that dark. you could still see red. Never got a ticket either.

That's not always the case... get vht nite shades, do no more than 3 coats. And the key, make sure you buff them out when your done. At least over where the actual bulb sits. Mine look straight black for the most part, but I buffed them and there are no visibility problems at any time of day, even in fog and rain, light or dark... its all in the way you do it. If u just sprat it on, of course you wont be able to see the lights and it would moat likely look like shit. And make sure you clean and dry them very well before spraying.

if you prep it right, vht night shades should do the trick, a coat or two just enough to ad some tint looks pretty good IMO on some cars that is, on integras i wouldnt do it : shrugs :

for steelies, i grinded them down of any rust and spray painted them and they look like new

i see what your saying, but i hate when ppl say that, if your not paying attention to the road whether tinted lights or not your gonna hit the car in front of you. if at night u cant see the car infront you with your headlights, then you have a problem....

im going very light with the tint, i dont want to black them out, just make them smoked would be more of what im going to do.

so you see my lights very easy but i may remove and use the spray for a better look and a bit lighter too, the window tint is nice to be able to remove easy but was a pain to do. ill take a picture of it in the morning.

as others said VHT nightshades. As a fair warning mine did fade over time and i re did them. To get a shiny/glossy effect I wet sanded my lights as you can see in the pic of my eclipse. Buffing as another member said may also do the trick but I found that wet sanding left a much smoother and glossier finish.

I'm just going to go with the vht shades i think. the window tint looks great but it isn't the best staying on. i might try it one more time and give it more time to dry on so that it doesn't start to come off while putting the light back on.

for the coats though, how long did you give each coat to dry and what to sand down with?

i would have to see if i can barrow a grinder for the steelies

im a bit of a noob to all these, i have owned the car for a little over a year and finally have it in good running shape, except for felling smog. so what is wet sanded, i havent heard of that.

and how many coats did you use for your eclipse bc i think that is the best level of tint, not going to do the headlights bc those are stock and are crap for seeing, might just do the brights.

do them off the car and next to each other so that you can sweep from side to the other and get both lights each pass

make sure to do them in the day light not at night under lights, because they wont look dark but next thing u know they are super dark lol happened to me the first time

so i take it that the spray is removable if it so happens i want it to look different or am forced to by cops?

alright, im going to give the window tint another chance now that i have practiced on other odd shaped objects for practice and it turned out well, but my concern is washing the car if it'll mess it up.

Ihad the tint on my mazda haha it won't mess up if you wash the car. making sure it has no creases when you apply it is the hard part. you might need an exacto knife to cut and smooth out creases around the corners.
