If you wanna do an all motor non vtec, its not going to be as powerful as a vtec motor, but you do get points for being original.
The big thing in those motors is the head - and how it flows for s***... here is a parts list:
Stock crank, forget rods (if you want - stock would be fine), 12:1 pistons, crower stage 3 cams, valvetrain/retainers, get a good intake manifold with a plastic IM gasket and have the intake manifold port matched to a 68MM throttle body. Get a good quality exhaust manifold, and i would try and get 2.5" - 2 3/4" exhaust (maybe skunk2 megapower).
And above all - get the thing tuned with hondata or something, that is key! get all the bolt ons and when your done with that then go towards getting engine management and taking the motor apart
