Tank Size? Confused.

So i searched the forum but the answer didn't really appear anywhere.

according to the spec sheet for my 98 its a 13 gallon tank?

My gauge was on the empty bar (the thick line) but the gas light wasn't on yet
so i put 2 gallons in from a gas can so the actual amount varies. not 100% sure on the exact amount.
I then hooked it up to the pump and it took 6.5 gallons before topping off.

so roughly 8.5 gallons filled it up, so.. I roughly had 5 gallons left yet it was sitting on just about empty
I'm confused? how can I have 5 gallons left yet it says empty. I bought this car used so I don't know what has been done to it, but I do know that it was owned by a high school kid that didn't do anything to it. so everything to my knowledge is stock other then the work I have done to it.
(cold air intake, misc parts replaced)

what's the average mpg on a stock GS? and how can I have 5 gallons yet it say empty?

I'm confused :what:

Your float can be messed up causing a bad reading. It's a 13.2 gallon tank. You'll be around 275-300 miles depending on the car. If possible. Run it out of gas and see where you're at

Alright thanks, I was thinking about doing this after payday, putting a small gas tank in the back and seeing what happens. and go from there, only thing I'm worried about is that I don't want to mess up my fuel pump since I don't know if the previous owner(s) have ever replaced it or not.

Its simple, average is around 300miles on a tank so at half a tank on the gauge you should be at 150miles or so. Gotta throw $40 in the tank to fill it up.

once it hits E i belive you have 3gallons in your tank... my buddy pasted the E mark kept driving too see how far he went, he went total of 33 miles after he hit E.. but could be your floater mested up.

btw having cold air intake loses mileage, need other components like header/exhaust to maybe gain few miles back.

a 4-1 header with a cat back exhaust is on my list for future things to add. (withing the next month or less)

Thanks for the info :)

at half tank off memory it was roughly 140+ could have been more. I know that the other night i put $20 in the tank (regular gas) not premium like I should be. and I still got 140 miles before it hit empty from half.

so $40 sounds about right so roughly 300 miles per tank sounds about right.

thanks everyone who contributed 8)

Our tanks our 13.2 gallons
When I hit almost empty it usually takes a about 10 gallons which is about 34 bucks here

That's about what I'm doing with my literally 100% stock GSR. My last fillup the car took 10.7 gallons and I got 295 miles out of the tank. Just an observation I made, my GSR seems to like Chevron Supreme better than 76 Supreme. Strangely, my Magnum RT Hemi was the opposite. It got the best mileage and had the best power with 76 gas. Strange how different motors have different "personalities".

If your car needs premium you better run premium. The tank is 13.2 gallons. Your gauge or fuel sending unit could be off.

Gas mileage varies between people and engine health. To my knowledge a cold air intake wouldn't decrease your mileage. Your getting BETTER air flow out of it.

A good friend of mine who owns a shop in Lake O and is an instructor at PIR knows just about everything there is to know about Honda motors. He explained to me that the stock airbox is actually more efficient than an aftermarket intake and that I should just leave it alone. That's good enough for me.

I feel he may be wrong about that. Assuming you have a good design on the intake tube, it's probably going to be bigger. There is no doubt that a good cone filter will flow more air then a stock air box. Just look at it and you can see. I've seen tests (Performed to show K&N's flow rate.) that prove that the stock air box is more restrictive.

Using premium on a gs is pretty pointless. It won't hurt anything, but you're not really gaining anything either.

Cold Air Intake looses some MPG's as the air is slightly more dense because its "cold"er. The other intake was closer to warmth which inturn is more efficient. Some route the intake near the header to pickup the hotter air. Thats why I run a SRI instead of my CAI now. Not a huge difference but some.
