i didnt read threw all these so if this was already suggested then you can just disregard my idea.
we could always do what team integra has and have the first 5 posts from new comers to have to be approved by mods and if the question has been repeated then sent the user a nice message stating that that topic or question has been already covered and then point them in the direction of the search button or my favorite the let me google that for you page lol
and also maybe move the search button to a better more easy to find location and make it a bit bigger. might help weed out the repeat questions.

If they're not willing to even look for the 'Search' bar (not very hard to find), there's a bigger problem then just the location of it. lol

Jay Jay did add a neat function that Tam4511 suggested also. If you guys have made threads recently and went to type in a new title name, you'll see that CI brings up a list of related threads and suggests going through them before starting your thread. lol It's pretty cool.

there's a feature on a local forum that's pretty cool. while you making a new thread it takes your title and automatically searches the site for you and pops up with suggestions before you make a thread. maybe we could get something like that?
I just added this mod :thumbs up
Hell yeah! 8)

I agree with better organization. I'm not trying to justify the repeated questions but I can see how it happens. Often when I search for answers using the search bar tons of threads pop. It can be very time consuming reading multiple threads that are a few pages long.
That is a matter of learning how to use the search engine properly.

If you limit things to "title" only and be specific with your posts, you won't have a problem using the search engine. Try limiting your searches to "Titles Only" instead of whole threads. That way when you search for "exhaust rattle" your not getting some guy's build thread where he mentions 47 pages into it that his exhaust has a rattle, it will only bring up threads with "exhaust rattle" in the title, therefore making the answer much easier to find.

All of these ideas are good. I'll look into what needs to be done to apply some. It seems we also need some useful stickies with links to some of the basic answered questions that are constantly being posted.
Another issue is that the new guys seem to ignore the stickies. For example, if all these new guys searched the forced induction sticky, they would find plenty of links that could answer the questions, I even posted FAQ's in the sticky. One of the link's I posted in the sticky is basically a step by step guide to turbocharging.

The only good thing about team integra is all of the DIY and articles. Theyre full of images, and detailed. They're also sorted and categorized. Maybe we can implement something like that?
As if my How-To list isn't awesome enough? Pffth.. people just need to LOOK at it. :thumbs up
Not to mention more people need to write more articles! Hell, I wrote you the How-To guide on changing your head gasket, i'm sure others would write more articles if they had some idea's of what was needed.

Is it possible for say a FAQ to be sent VIA PM to the new members or to all members with a link to a "FAQ Thread"?
I think that sending a PM to new members would be helpful. Not just a "Welcome to the site." pm, but maybe one outlining how to effectively use the search engine, maybe link to the various FAQ's / Sticky's ect.

We actually have a DIY/How-To section. Go to the list of sections and scroll down until you see it. There are many very useful articles that can be found there.
Just because it's there doesn't mean ONLY helpful articles are there. 90% of what I see posted there are as follows:

Title: "How to change brakes."
Thread: "How do I change my brakes?!?!?"

Not "This is how." kind of threads.
That is why I created the "How To" list in the first place. I went through damn near every page of that section and picked out the threads that were actually How To articles. Members have been helpful by sending me PM's and posting there when new threads arise. Sure you can run through various pages to find an answer to the question, but that's no different then searching. I don't think the section is doing it's job how it was intended, hence the list I made.

That's exactly what turned me away from Team-Integra in the first place. I would not like to see that implemented here, especially because MODS have lifes too, they aren't on CI 24/7 to approve posts.

And since i'm whoring out my How-To list, here's a link:

Should more of the site be closer monitored by mods in order to keep this site from filling up with worthless threads?

What can be done to have the site move forward? One that doesnt have stupid threads popping up left and right? Perhaps people can search more, and moderators can moderate more.

Please share your opinion.
There is already a site like this. Its called Team-Integra.net.

If I was a moderator, I wouldnt be on very often, but I would swing the banhammer around the room quite a bit.

I didn't say there are ONLY helpful threads in that section, I was just pointing out that Club Integra already has a good amount of information. It just needs to be cleaned up and organized better to make it more searchable. I agree that there could be more detailed write-ups instead of just members asking questions. That's where members are more than welcome to contribute to the site. That section can't be cleaned up overnight, though. It's going to take some time. It'd probably be a good idea to put a lock on that section and only allow approved write-ups at some point.

i like how team integra has the probation for new members where it forces them to search and read before they post.

aside from all that.... we have a lot of come and go users... we need to prevent that. ive seen folks join the site for ROTM, then disappear.

A lot of people don't realize they can go through other members build threads and learn a lot. See the different set ups and how things are working on the cars. I've had a lot of my questions answered this way and if I still have more questions ill pm the op.
spoken like a true user... you search and go through builds. :thumbs up
