Rod knock? Lifter issue?

Sooo... sad :'( my buddy says he can hear a lifter problem and maybe a rodknock, he blames it on my use of synthetic oil... my beloved DA! How can I prove him wrong? Or unfortunately right perhaps?? I don't want to have to give teggy up.. I couldn't hear anything but a faint tick.. I thought it was just how honda motors sounded

try adjusting valves first

Rod knock will sound like someone smacking the bottom end with a hammer.
Like Dylan said, adjust the valves.
