So recently i put a Pacesetter muffler on my car, and when i was having some fun downtown Columbus, Oh after paying off a ticket, i hit a bump while at 5krpm and it went all the way to 7k. i normally hit 6k at the most without any problems. Now my engine seems to have a tick like a lifler or valve. Im wondering what would be a easy thing to do, do the have valve lash adjustment or what other kind of thing can i do to the car. I was thinking of doing ls/v but i dont want to throw too much money on this car. Not till i get me a nice dc im trying to trade for.
any help would be appreciated.

p.s. im going to school for auto tech but im still a noob on what can be done to this car, but i can more than likely work on my own car if i get somehelp on what to do.
thanks

I would adjust the valve lash if it's ticking. It gives you a chance to make sure everything is still in one piece under the valve cover.

i was in the process of trying that but the nut on the cover by where the dizzy is at wont come out. i tried vise grips and pulling as i turn and i got nothing. i am breaking it once i get a new valve cover since it is already broke over by the timing cover part.

For now i am driving my car so easy, no past 4k at the most. only 65-70 instead of 85.lol

Does it just spin, or does it not turn at all?

it spins and spins ans spins some more, like if the bolt also spining, but i tried forever with no luck at all, not even moving up or down
You could cut the nut off, and then unscrew the stud with a wrench as you lifted up on it with some pliers.

Both the nuts and studs strip very easily, they require very little torque when tightening. I agree with Kris that you should just adjust the valve lash. Its probably as simple as that. No reason to replace the head and get into an LS/VTEC build for something as simple as what it seems you have.

Hopefully it's valve adjustment...and not a rod bearing going out...
