Even if he didn't know how to launch and he missed a shift, it will still be likely he will be able to catch up if he drives in a straight line with his foot on the pedal.

The only chance you have against him (even if he is s**** off the line) is to build your motor, or do a light build and boost. He has way more power, and its easier to control than your car (no offence, not saying you dont know how to drive), I used to race (on a track) in a 350z.. its freaking fun lol. I wouldnt even bother with it, let him hate and be a douch... lol
