man, like everyone else has said, its about what YOU want. rice is really just a tease for the most part. the most basic description for rice is........
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ricer
A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):
- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Bodykit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performace intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therfore not always considered rice. It really depends on the severity of the case.
while this is slightly off it does show that in a basic way a ricer is a car that is built to look fast with no true mechanical know-how or common sense knowladge, where the parts that are installed actually hurt the performance of the vehicle, or are just excessive (a 3 foot tall spoiler is excessive). someone who builds a car and thinks its fast but actually slower then it was when they started is a good example.
this dude raced me the other day, this was his car
96 civic 2dr )i think it was an ex)
no hood
k&n intake looked to be 4inch
"custom 4 1/2 inch performance exhaust with a 3 inch tip that added 40hp and 60tq" .... his exact words i swear to god lol
a body kit that was held on with zip ties
a very large tripple deck spoiler
racing seats
a "2 point roll cage" actually just a bar that he made to attach his 3 point racing harness to
and the final touch..... rims 20 inch rims to "give it better traction off the line" that weighed more then 30 pounds more then stock total. i thought his car died when we took off the line because i swear he didnt move, that was atleast until i heard a herd of cattle behind me that was coming out of his exhaust. he asked me if i had a turbo setup in my car because i was so much faster then him.
my car is stock with a leaking head gasket 24xk+ miles in the motor and a f1 racing stage 1 clutch on cheap mix matched tires. his car was a ricer by all means
but in the end, fuck everyone elses opinions, and do what you like. listen to advice they may give you ideas that you like or a cheaper way to do the exact same thing, but in the end customizing a car is just that, custom. if youve got the mans to do it, dont have a cookie cutter car, have a car that you want with what you want on it..
ok im done with my little rant, i just hate people calling anything a ricer thats not.
