I am trying to fit a pair of Rockford Fosgate R1652-S component speakers in the front of my 94 LS. My issue is the fact that they don't fit. there wouldn't be any plastic left if i were to try and modify the factory speaker mounts, and the speakers won't fit in the door itself. What i was wondering is if there was any specific template i could possibly use to cut out an mdf spacer, or possibly someone who would make some for me, considering i personally am not very good at woodworking. PM for more details, but this explains about all there is to know.

they should fit, i got 6.5 infinity components in mine

from what i figured out i would make a small mdf ring bolt it onto the plastic piece that the stock speaker sits in, then mount your speaker to that so it gives u plenty of room for the back of it

on mine i ended up mounting them to the actual door panel

I would have to mount mine to the door panel directly. the R1652-S's are technically a 6 3/4" speaker when Rockford classifies them as 6 1/2" speakers. I had to use a damn RotoZip with a Dremel attachment to cut the plastic to get the rear R1653s to fit, and they're just coaxial versions of the ones I'm trying to put in the front. Something tells me this is going to be fuuuuuun.

why would they just go in lol that would be no fun
i didnt mind cutting my door panel or more like the speaker grill, you can always cover it up with fabric and wont even know its there unless u push on it, good so in the future when u decide to take them out or sell the vehicle.
you always buy more speaker grills they shouldnt be too much, ill post pics of mine tomorow

What do you mean? I would like to mount them to the door itself, minimum vibration (in theory...) I'm gonna have to cut the door panel itself for the mounting of the tweeter, I don't mind that (five minute job to be honest)

yeah to the door panel it self, well the grill
i did mine, they look better because the kick panels have the same thing in them
if i didnt have the kick panels i would of figured out a way to stick them behind the door panel
i put fabric on the speaker grill afterwards so that you could see the parts where it needed to be cut



for the tweeters i tried to stay away from cutting on those
keep the grill to the stock tweeters in, hot glue it to the door panel thru the back
then attach the aftermarket speaker to the back of the door panel

im not 100% happy with how it came out but i needed to fit more speakers with out having to cut the door panel apart so this is the next best thing

It looks like you mounted the speakers directly to the grilles? Or did you make a spacer that is the shape of the grille and attaches to the door shell?

yeah i did, the 2nd time. the first time they where behind the grill but the kick panels looked alone lol
2nd time i attached them to the grill, sounds about the same still and its attached good
