do it once, do it right, but most important of all in the tuning community, do it the way that makes you happy, not us, if you wanna do it how you're asking, the block and head already mentioned is your starting platform, since you're already obd0 get a pr3 ecu, you'll need to pin in the two vtec wires, and tune that shit, i got a guy that does it cheap, you can hit up craigslist though and find someone that'll work for cheap, but you get what you pay for, always remember that
t r u t h...different strokes for different folks.
right now you can get a nice gsr cheap and go from there. you already have most of what you need and if you're in socal like me, it will prob pass smog too

Again if you wanna do it how you were asking, read what I said, and use the block and head as previously stated and enjoy

Wait, how is the GSR the US version of the Type R when there is a USDM Type R?:2confused
Not in the DA style, though... I mean sticking straight to DA/DB lines of integras... Sure, there are Type R's here in the states, but usually later models, ranging 96 and newer?

I guess my current build project on mine is kind of like this "poorman's type R". Really I could probably just have bought a type R motor for what I am spending on all of it, but I wanted to keep the B17 bottom since there are so few out there really anymore. Got type R pistons, a type R head that I am porting and building right now, and some skunk2 stage 1's. Pretty mild but at least getting it up from that weak 9.6:1 compression they start with. No wonder it has the same power as a B16 stock other than a few extra lbs of torque

oh really,i tought u had to upgrade the head to get that type of numbers .
if so,thats annoying lol
As long as you use a later B16 head with B18C5 valvetrain and cams you should make the same power. I'm not positive if the C5 intake manifold is different than a standard B16 IM but you can always buy a Blox IM they're identical to a Type R piece.
Granted you also need the higher compression pistons and lighter, better-balanced rotating assembly of the C5 as well as the P73 ECU to truly make the same power.

the intake manifold is different as well.
