I was supposed to start in september but after alot of advice and research I decided the best thing 2 do was back out. That school is really nice but its 30k for a year and a half. Also I was gonna have 2 move so I needed to save up an additional $1500-$2000 because when you get there you have to pay rent and all your other expenses and you wont have a job right away. Then I got to thinking even when I find a job I would have to strain myself to have enough money to make it. I would of prbly ended up paying $300 or more for rent every month then my insurance is around $300 which will prbly go up cause I have a shit load of tickets to go to court for then lets say prbly $100 a month for gas and it might be more depending on how far the school is from your housing(some housing is 30 miles or more from the school) then lets also add $100 for food.

So far im up to $700 in living expenses, theres also laundry prbly money for a spot 2 park your car and you never know your car might break down and then you need the money some parts. So im just gonna guess and round it off and say I would of needed at least $800 a month. I believe the school is 18 months so thats a total of $14,400 for time that will be spent going to UTI then theres still the 30k I would of had to pay back after UTI. From what I heard, UTI helps students get jobs but its bullshit retail clerk jobs like target or something. Some students are fortunate to find a job at a jiffy lube or some auto parts store but thats not every student.

I even heard tales of students finding a job at a dealership while they went to school which would be pretty cool. You have to think tho, its not like you can put in a crazy amount of hours at work, the school is 5 days a week and I think 6 hours a day. Not alot of room for OT. Then its still up to you manger on how many hours you can work. There not gonna give you a whole bunch of hours just cause you go to school, theres people who will be working the same job as you who have familes to feed.

After thinking about all this I looked around and found a local community college that has an auto tech program and when you graduate you get a Associtates degree and its around $12,000 which is basically the cost of living while attending UTI. Bottom line UTI is a great looking school, they have dynos, alot of hands on training, and all you do is learn about cars which is cool cause I hate doing math, english, and other bullshit like that plus you get like a $1000 worth of snap on tools which I think is awsome BUT its fucking pricey period. Being in that much debt would suck especially if you graduate and dont find work right away, which im sure it happens to alot of students. I mean I understand that if you give it 100% and do everything your supposed to do then UTI will try to help you land a jom with BMW or porsche or whatever but lets be honest the economy fucking sucks and will continue to suck for a while so that may not be as easy as it sounds.

I dont wanna have a $30,000 debt working at good year changing tires thats for sure lol.

Sorry for the long post but I figure I share my .02 thats all. I dont know exactly how hard or easy it is attending UTI for sure, so I could be wrong. Also im not tryna bag on the school, it seems like a great school just super duper pricey and I think you can get same knowledge from a cheaper school.

^ I'm not gonna quote your long Message but....

yea I feel you. but I heard alot of those community college schools automotive programs suck compared to UTI, I dont know about everywhere in the country, but thats what I heard about the one in Jacksonville.

One of the options I was weighting was going to my local community college for automotive tech on financial aid and grants, get a job, then a year or so later when I save money go to UTI for Diesel Mechanic. So then I would have two degrees.

But I wanna do something quick to get out of my parents house ASAP....

UTI dosent give you a degree they give you a certificate, but I see what ur saying, im kinda rushing also so I know how that feels. Community college will give you a degree but im also pretty sure the auto program wont be nearly as good or hands on as UTI but that is why UTI is more expensive. I would love to go to UTI but relocating and having to scrape up $800 every month while going to school everyday seems kinda crazy.

yeah, and on top of living expenses and the tuition, i have a kid and a girlfriend to take care of. And to make it worse there are no community colleges i know of around me that offer programs in auto tech.
