Oil pump.

Hey guys,

How common is it to have issues with the oil pump on a B18A? I have 136k on it and yesterday I started it up and pulled out of the driveway and the oil light came on and stayed on. Im suspecting the pump, but if anyone has any ideas, id love to hear em. BTW the oil level is fine so im kinda stumped lol

If the light is on that means you have around 5psi of pressure. Your main bearings are probably done for.

^this or you bumped the oil pressure switch when you changed the oil filter. could of bent it or knocked the wire loose.

I changed the sender last night and the filter and much to my dismay, when i unscewed the filter no oil came out. Added new filter started it up, oil light came back on and engine started knocking. %$#@^&&%$#$$#!!!!!!!!!

Your last oil change was at a shop, or you did it yourself? Sounds like some one forgot to put oil in.

Yea, you most likely need a new bottom end.
had a similar problem about 4-5 months ago my light came on thought i needed oil so i added and drove half a block and came on again and added more...but gettin to the point i spun a rod bearing and then i was fu*%ed i was about 60 miles from home and it happened on the freeway...:cussing::smackself

I was in the same boat 4- 5 mths ago -dont lock it up rebuild the bottom end , its most likely done for . Oil light only comes on at or around 5psi=new bottom end, rebuild now before you need new internals/bottom end

got a new oil pump yesterday, and before I installed it i pulled one of the crank caps and rod caps, the bearings both looked good. Im gonna try it with the new pump and see what happens. I even picked up a complete B18A with a spun crank bearing for 50 bux, so im gonna rebuild that one in the meantime if mine doesnt knock when I start it up with the new pump.
