Happy end of 4/20!

First manual car I've owned.. Got a lot of down time with it today, and I must say.. I suck shit in first and second gear lol :(
I hope I get the hang of it soon..

You will dude, don't be discouraged. I live on the steepest hill in the city so my first stick driving was a pain in the ass lol

Try practicing with first gear for a while. Park on flat land with maybe a very very subtle downard incline going in the direction your driving. Keep your foot on the clutch and the other on the brake and put into first gear. Let go of the clutch SLOWLY until you feel the car start to rumble and jiggle a bit (you will also notice you will be losing power on your RPMs). Once you start to feel these movements, that's your engagement point and that's when you should start to slowly add gas. Remember to add gas as your letting go of the clutch. Keep practicing this over and over until you really start to get a feel for your engagement point.

What I did was practice the engagement point then start shifting to 2nd and sometimes 3rd and drive around the block in a circle. I would then stop the car (in neutral of coarse) in the very spot where I got the car into first.

Rinse and repeat.

I hope this isn't too confusing and will help you (I'm TERRIBLE at explaining things, sorry).

If you are on flat surface, you can let the clutch out slow enough that it'll actually move the car forward without having to give gas.

Thanks for the help guys! I actually woke up this morning and I was better at it! And I conquered my first incline.. Still no stalls either! Big plus for me.

My main problem with second gear was that I was shifting at 1k RPM, so it was boggin down. I watched my friend drive it last night, and it made more sense after watching him do it. I just cant quite get reverse under control, but nothing a day of practice cant fix :)

lol you will get the hang of it. good rule of thumb is to shift at 3k RPMS.

00-10 mph - 1st
20 mph - 2nd
30 mph - 3rd
40 mph - 4th
50+ mph - 5th

Shift at around 3-32k RPM. You don't HAVE to do it this way, just a simple tip

good luck young jedi's
wait til you drop in a new performance clutch and pressure plate....
actually, i have a question (we're all still learning, right?). Don't need a new clutch right now, but for future reference what is a good stage clutch from exedy (or competition) for a daily driver LS Teg? Only mods i have are I/H/E. Dont really plan on any heavy mods in the future

IMO so far my favorite for spirited daily driving would be a Comp Clutch stage 2. Right now I have a stage 4 comp clutch and my 8lb fly.....and im not feeling it at all. Like I said, I ran a stage 2 comp clutch and 8 lb flywheel (got it all at a good price) and ran that daily for 2 years strong!. I havent used any othert brand yet....Think im gonna try out an exedy stage 1or 2 and keep my fly wheel since its only 6mos old.

oh yeah, its good to know the lil chart for the speeds and changing of gears, but all in all its the motor that will tell you when and how you need to be shifting. Watch your RPM tach and get to know your motor. There WILL be times that the speed of the car will jump or drop FAST..... or the speedo can act up on you.
