91 Integra will not start

I just finished doing the brakes on my sons 91 Integra and when he went to start the car, it would not fire up. There are no dash lights when the key is in the on position, there is no power to the coil, obviously no spark and the shifter is stuck in park. I can only get it out of park by pushing the mechanics release button. This car is missinag a few pieces including the fuse panel covers and I am really in a jam. I would sure appreciate any help that could be offered. Thanks in advance.

Check the easy stuff first. Does anything get power? Or is it just the dash lights that don't work. I would say have the battery tested. Sounds like it might be a simple fix.

Thanks for the help. The car turns over fine, brake lights and even the radio works. The dash lights i am referring to are the typical diagnostic lights that you would normally see before you start the car with the key in the on position.

Does the cluster work, like the tach and mph

Check the fuse box. It may have just blown a fuse.

I checked all the fuses and all were good. I do not have any labels to reference for fuse location since the covers are missing from the car.

hgocasca - thanks also for your help. No the cluster does not work. No warning lights or anything come on.

Oh, ya you have a popped fuse, or loose wire, no doubt on that

all fuses seem to be in good shape under the dash. should i be looking at the panel under the hood for problems like this?

The car just went dead without warning. It was running like a champ until i changed the brake rotors and pads. Like you say, it has to be something simple, I am just clueless on where to look.

i agree, also a huge thing with batteries and not having a rig turn on, check the positive and negative cables to the batterey, its possable u have corrosion somewere, and u are not getting a connection, and clean terminals, and as far as fuses go, the fuses should be labeled on what type they are, only remove 1 at a time to replace, or find a diagram for that model through acura, they may have it, because something like changing brakes then it not starting is deffinilty a wire issue, if its dead, if it starts to turn over may be same problem, u may just not have enough power due to corrosion, my suggestion is check/change those, after that if it dont work and it starts to turn but wont turn over, check alternator/ac compressor/ or anything with a pulley on that car, if there out specially an alternator it becomes really hard to turn, so when those pulleys get tight it constricts everything making it hard to turn the motor, ur starter alone wont due that, also if nothing in cluster is working i agree remove it and look for ground issue, if no fuses are blown u have a bad ground or lose wire thats connecting to another cause a ur circuit to flow else were, hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help. The car has no problem turning over, it just wont fire. There is no power at the coil, the shifter is stuck in park and I dont have any idiot lights showing when the key is in the on position. Both the shifter and the starting problem happened at the same time. I am hoping they are related some how.

We do you guys think about a faulty ignition switch before I go and start taking it apart.

ignition switch? umm if its starting to turn over that shouldnt be the problem however, if key is on and wont come outa park... raises questions, does the shifter move to nuetral if u turn lock off?
