I have a 1993 acura integra, with a stock b18a1 ls engine. im looking to add a vtec to it and rebuild it all the way up to race ready. i have never rebuilt an engine and would like some help as to how to rebuild and add a vtec to my engine. i need some help on what parts to buy and what vtec to get. can someone help?

If you are doing a full rebuild and you want to change it to VTEC, you would need a VTEC cylinder head, ECU, I would recommend the golden eagle LS VTEC kit, especially if you never done something like this, it will make it a LOT easier, otherwise you have to tap the block yourself and if you mess that up, you are pretty much in big trouble. You would also need all the gaskets, piston rings, bearings to rebuild the bottom end, and you will probably want a timing belt, water pump, seals, etc to do all that while you are also. I would just do your research, I am trying to answer this fast and probably forgot a few things.

Sell that motor, round up your cash, and buy any b16, or a b17, or b18c, you'll need an ecu, you'll need to pin in the two vtec wires, and I'd rebuild that motor too just so it'll be fresh going in, and have someone who knows these swaps help

ya, i wouldnt go for a ls/vtec, because they arent that reliable. this is due to the long rod/stroke ratio. vtec gets all its power from reving high, but when you rev an ls motor past 7000 rpm, it probably wont last for long. personaly i would just purchase a b16 or b18c and rebuild it. doing that wouldnt even be that ba in price compared to an ls vtec. from what ive heard if you want to do ls vtec right, its going to cost around 2000$. heck, if your looking for a big project swap in an h22a :D

Thanks alot for your guys input. i did some research and the b18c sounds like a great base engine. what kind of aftermarket parts should i look into buying for the engine. remember i plan to race this engine once its built.

Boost lol cams, higher comp piston, arp's everywhere, basic bolt on parts, and tune that shit!

i see a lot of people saying that ls/v is very unreliable and dont last long, i have also heard the complete opposite. how long does the average one last considering it is built well. i know there is many variables. just trying to get somewhat of an idea from somebody's experience lol

All about build quality and how you drive it, treat it good and build it right, it'll last forever, do it cheap and rape vtec everywhere you go, and it'll have a shorter lifespan, that's with any motor really, gotta pay to play bud

anything is unreliable when u build it like crap and are mis-informed. Ls vtec would cost about 1k and yes a ls block isnt exactly built for revving past 7k, but with arp rod bolts it will be fine. thats not the only flaw on the ls block how about oil pressure a oil pump is a must as well. Get a p72 oil pump lsvtec kit is a must if u dont know what ur doing . Ls vtecs are reliable and great if ur racing on a budget.

If your gonna rebuild your ls then a lsvtec is the way to go. Drop the motor, take the head off start tearing the block apart replace pistons rings and seals water pump all the things that go bad. Do it now before it breaks later change the oil pump the rod bolts and if u can afford it go crazy and take the block to the machine shop get it honed and hot tanked. U can change the bearings. Might as well throw acl bearings on there and put everything back together. Once you got the head on and shit get it in the car soon as u get it to start go str8 on a dyno. Theres no need to waist all the time and money youve invested because u wanna be cheap and run on a virgen p28. Dyno tune or any tune is a must. Thats what really is gonna make your motor reliable or a p.o.s.
